Default A4 Launching Question

What's better from the line, reving it up high and then slamming it in first and taking off, or just put it in 1st from the start and rev it to about 2 grand and launching, I've tried both dont know which is better

if you are slammin it in first, you are a dumbass. you're transmission already is weak as it is.

Leave it in drive and stall as high as the rear tires will let you. Some converters like to be "flashed" which means taking off from idle and then stomping on the gas pedal.

I would stall it up and tighten up the drivetrain then go. stall up to 1500 or so.

Subtle as a sledgehammer

AFAIK, as long as there is nothing wrong with your shift points, it's best to just put it in drive and leave it there. If you hold first, you run the risk of bouncing off the rev limiter.

That's it. Brake torque it against the converter and load the drivetrain. On green, sidestep the brake and hit it!

Eveyone above is right. Here's my 2cents...

Your tranny is a 4L60E meaning it shifts electronically. Shifting manually can damage it actually. I did that my first few runs too since I didn't know any better.

On stock radials, drop the tire pressure to around 24psi and pump up the fronts to around 40psi. Load the drivetrain by stalling the coverter ever so slightly...no where near 1500rpms. Stall it just enough to tighten up the drivetrain. On the third yellow count "one-one thousand" as you roll quickly into the throttle. That'll prevent major tire spin. Stomping the gas will break the tires loose and you'll cut 2.1 60's. I was able to cut 1.9's with the technique above.

Launching on DR's or ET Streets with a converter is a whole 'nother ball game.

Good Luck!

Listen to the (Big Unit) 213,that's what i did and he's right on.I took first place last friday night only because i was able to launch my T/A with out spinning my tires at all..i have it down,i only give enough throttle to take up the slack in the drivetrain,it's pretty simple with an A4...just can't get over excited while staging...stay cool.

I actually took that advice from Colonel if I remember correctly. Not that he knows anything about drag racing. I tried several different methods and that worked best for me.
