Default 4L60E life expectancy?

Hey guys got a A4 completely stock (that I know of) with TSP tune. I'm putting a 4000 PTC stall in and a tranny cooler. Any ideas of how long it will last if I take it easy on her until I can get a built one. Also, making around 400HP/380TQ.

Thanks.

Thats certainly a coin toss but if your easy on it and have a cooler may last a long while, But the real question is why put in a 4000 and be easy on it , Why not just hold on to the stall and put a good built unit in at the same time?

One is because I'm having problems with the cam wanting to go through the brakes and I'm tired of it dying on me when I put it in gear. It won't be too long before I can get a built tranny. I'd say about a month or so. I've got a REAL good deal on one from a buddy.

Well like I said if you take it easy you should be fine for a while, The stall itself is not what can kill the trans but rather what you do with the car with a stall in it lol

if youve made it this long def try and hold out another month. seems pointless to pull the tranny, swap converters, put trans back in only to take it out in a month for a built one. What if your stock one doesnt hold up for a month with the new converter ?? then your out a car until you can purchase a built trans. This way you could atleast get a couple hundred dollars out of your stock one. Id wait bud. just my .02

well i got my car with 33xxx miles, and id say it went at 50xxx miles or close to that.. but that was hard miles on it, and actually when it went i was cutting doughnuts, so i think its a question of how easy can you be on it??

If you don't beat on it or get it too hot seems that it should last a month easily. I had a ss3600 is my stock trans for like 15,000 miles with no problems. But it will take a lot of will power to not "test" the new converter. Plus if you did break your stock trans you will need to get your converter refreshed. Cause the converter will always hold some of the trans fluid with the shavings or burnt fluid from the broken trans. So that would be couple more hundred bucks.

^ i actually got lucky and didnt have to freshin up my converter when i tore my tranny, i probably should of but i didnt, and it lasted for about another 9 months then i tore the tranny out again!!

so if your not hard on your, id say it would last you a good while maybe 2 years or something???

haha yea they don't always NEED the refresh just always seem like $250 is cheaper than risking the whole trans. But more power to ya for having the ***** to try it tho lol.

In addition to my previous post when i had my ss3600 in my stock tran i did have a external cooler on it but the 15,000 miles were not gentle. It made a few dozen 1.7X 60ft. passes and that trans never went out. as far as i know that trans is still driving around today (8 months later).

I hope so, my buddy made me a helluva deal on a LVL 6 4L60E thats too good to refuse...but I'm $1,500 too short lol. I have a friend that will give me another 4L60E, but its stock too. So if it does go out before I get a built one I'll have a spare to run for a bit. If all else fails I'll run around in the 4.8 longbed truck . Which I should probably do (most likely will) to begin with is just run around in it for a while.

my car was fine until i got a cam and stall, then it only lasted 3 months or so before it started slipping. I was lucky it only slipped when i mashed on it and was fine for regular driving, so i was able to save up for the new trans while still driving the car.(its my dd)

Well I traded my silverado for the car. It already had the heads/cam etc. and a stock stall/tranny. Its annoying as hell trying to keep it from going through the brakes or keeping it running when I put it in gear. So I figured I'd get by with the 4000 if I drive it like I normally do. Usually don't run but 60mph on interstate and I really take it easy on her. Unless its the weekend and I find a good one to run . But my plan was to get the stall and tranny cooler in and take it easy until I get the money to buy that built 4L60E

Well hell if I had the $1500 for a new tranny I would! I better take it easy on her for awhile. I'm sure every now and then I might get on it a little. But not anything hard until I get me something built .
