Exclamation problem with auto shifter "safety switch" or in steering column?

i just got into my car this evening like i always do, cranked it up, foot on the brake and when i go to shift into reverse i notice that the "safety switch"(button pushed with thumb, dont no what its called) had no resistance. i can go from park to first and back to park without pushing it in. i drove like this a few miles and went back home. put it in park cut my car off and then my key would not turn far enough back to pull it out so i started my car back up put it in drive and slammed it into park and finally got my key out. i pushed in the brake and tried the button and it felt normal so i started my car and same thing. so now i have to slam it into park just to take my key out. something is wrong somewhere but cant find anything-anyone else ever have this problem? i need help!

It is just a problem with the "bitsi" switch. In order to get the key out the switch needs to see park. It could be an adjustment problem or a bad switch.
