Default Should I buy used Yank 3600 Converter

A guy in my area has a Yank 3600 converter for sale, he wants $500 for it. I dont know the condition, or really what to look for beyond anything that might be obviously wrong. What do you guys think? Im buying his rearend with 3:73's, he's parting out his wrecked 01 Camaro.

My take on used converters. Do you ever really know the condition or if it has had a metal milkshake through it even if low mileage? If you can't get a great deal on it where you can send it to Yank and have them open it up or a local place for inspection (place I deal with charges $50-$75) then don't do it. I'm floored guys asking near new prices for a used converter on here. $600 used or $750 new. No-brainer! Used ones should be close to 1/2 price to sell in my opinion. Part of the reason I ordered a new Circle-D.

because the 4L60E is so suspect, i wouldnt put anything used in there. for $500 bucks u can almost get a brand new vigilante converter or maybe a brand new fresh converter from one of the sponsors.

Just buy a new one for that price. I bought a used Yank coverter (the owner said it was rebuilt). It was a great converter. I loved it, but the bearing went bad, and took out my transmission in the process. So I ended up having to pay for another converter, and a new transmission (+ getting it installed)

Just save yourself the money in the long run, and get a new one. If you can find a guy/shop that understands performance converters, and could take it apart and look at it for you and freshen up some parts inside for cheap, it might be worth it. But I'd just buy a new one, you don't have to get a Yank, I think there's converters that perform just as well for much less money.

That does seem a little expensive for a used converter. I would suggest spending a few hundred more dollars and get a new one built for your application. It will work better and you won't have to worry about it. I personally would suggest a Circle D stall, I hear they are great!
