damn i was hoping i could get a new shaft and stick it in there and do some cleanup...guess not?

and yes it looked like that...same spot...looks like there is a oiling hole in the shaft right where it broke..

I agree that a billet shaft is the fix here. What kind of power are you pushing with your combo hp, et, and 60ft? I personally like to see a billet shaft used in extreme use and especially with good sticky tires at the track. Vince

both planets are probably chewed up, as well as a bunch of other stuff. When mine broke, it took the case with it too, I had to use a sledge hammer to get that shaft out.

don't even waste your time and money with a hardened shaft, get a billet one.

With that being said I would get a billet shaft. Also wheel hop issues will really shock the driveline and cause multiple failures. A billet shaft with 1.3 60's will probably be a very good investment. Vince

That looks exactly like my failure, mine snapped right on the 1-2 shift also. I'm on mickey thompsons... Twisted apart at the oiling hole the same too and took out the rear planets and the tailhouse cracked also... Upgraded to GM 5 pinion planets and went with a hardened output shaft as it was $150 and the billet was around $400-$500 and I'm just full boltons so hopefull the hardened shaft holds up for a while... My local builder charged me for just the hard parts no labor and it cost me about $900.... g'luck with yours man!

I had similar problems when my 4l60e started taking a dump. I was told it was the forward sprag, but now I wonder if it was a shaft. I sent it out to a builder to get fixed...come to think of it that was well over a year ago. I ended up building a 4L80e and put in since I never heard back from him.

I think I'm going to have to make a drive out to California to get my trans back one of these days

Anyways good luck man, breaking shafts and hardparts means your making the power, well done.

I wish the reason i was breaking **** was because I was making too much power, but i'm just full bolt-ons still On the broken shaft my best 60' was only 1.7 and best 1/4's in my sig.... sooo yea...

I wasnt going to play that game, I had already broke 2 4L60e's with just bolt on's and street tires. Hence the 4L80e. Pretty bad when a bone stock $100 4L80e holds up better than $1400 4L60e.

I just spend big money getting billet parts for my 47RE in my Cummins, ouch...and people complain about trans prices for gassers...

Yes, they make billets for the truck guys, but we still snap them.

Rossler has a billet input shaft. But most don't break the input shaft, it is the input drum that breaks more often.

Mine broke on launch and it was the input sprag assembly.
