Default Need help completing the "list". M6 to A4

Im sure that Ive mentioned that Im doing a conversion from a M6 to a 200-4R a million times already throughout this site, but I want to make sure that I get everything that I need. Please help me finish the list of parts that Im going to need for the automatic conversion.

1. tranny (no brainer )
2. converter (havent decided...TCI or Yank)
3. flexplate (which I already have, TCI 29.1 SFI approved )
4. tranny cooler (havent decided on which B&M cooling system to get)
5. driveshaft (will be purchasing from Denny's Driveshaft as soon as the tranny is in for measurements)
6. range selector cable
7. park lock cable
8. shifter & ****
9. top portion of console/trim plate
10. brake pedal for automatic
11. torque arm (with own crossmember/ already have a chromoly Spohn torque arm with front driveshaft loop! not installed :p)

Thats what Ive come up with so far, am I missing anything or including something that Im not supposed to? Thanks and any help is greatly appreciated!

Don't forget the transmission mount and the cooler lines and fittings. The low car dipstick is spelled Lokar. Just do a search on those.

Oh yeah, thanks Kevin!

13. TH350 tranny mount (thats what I was told that I would need to use)

I didnt know that the manufacturer name was Lokar...I thought that low car was the type of dipstick kit. Am I going to need the cooler lines with the B&M cooling system? I figure for the price that they go for that it would include everything. I appreciate your help!

Are the 2 cables that I mentioned the only ones that Im going to need and are those the right names for them? (gotta make sure that I order the right ones.) Oh and about the auto. brake pedal...is it just the pedal or is there other parts that go with it? Anyone know if it comes as a kit or everything is seperate? Let me know if Im missing anything else, thanks.

Do you think I should take the time to look in junk/salvage yards for these parts or just buy them brand new outright? I know that GMPartsDirect has really good prices and I wouldnt mind spending the money for new parts. However, no one around here salvages f-bodies in particular or new cars for that matter. There may be some in the Houston or surrounding areas, but nothing to my knowledge. It would be nice to save some bucks if there was a place that I could call, visit, or search on the net for and that wouldnt take too much time to do. Im sure that I could find what I need out there, but finding it is going to be the difficult part. The only way that I would buy stuff that was used, refurbished, or salvaged is if it was dirt cheap. What do you think that I should do? Does anyone know of where I could get these parts from? (#6-#10) Thanks

I need all the info that I can get on this project. What kind of things need to be removed, modified, added, wiring, etc. Basically, everything that I need to know for the conversion. Tricks, ideas, tips, things to watch out for, etc. would also be very helpful. Oh...I also need to know everything that I will need (parts), please read here:

Your list looks pretty complete to me. You will have to wire up your reverse lights. Also you need to remove your pilot bearing. Also your clutch safety switch needs to be disabled too. Call lokar to order a custom length dipstick tube. ~$100.

I was told that I needed to use a Lokar 36" dipstick kit...is there only 1 specific 36"? Do any of the sponsors carry them or would I be better off buying direct? About the tranny mount...what brand, material, etc. should I go with? Thanks for your help!

I did several searches and came across that an A4 radiator is needed. Whats the reason behind that and will I need one for a 200-4R? Other than that, I didnt see anything else that Im going to need besides fabbing up a plate for the bigger whole in the floor board. Thanks

About the brake pedal...of course the manual brake pedal and clutch pedal are going to have to be removed, but as far as the auto. brake pedal, is it going to be a direct bolt up, or will there need to be changes, modifications, fabbing, etc.? Is there an assembly or kit that I will need to purchase or I just need the pedal/arm? Thanks

Almost 130 views and only 1 reply. Ive done so many searches and Im still not getting the info that I need. It mentions a few of the parts needed, mainly the bigger and more obvious ones, but not the small ones that you dont think about. I also never came across any how to's or anything of that sort. Im not asking for someone to tell me every step, I just want to make sure that I have everything that I need so when I do jump in and start the job, that I dont have to stop for however many days to wait on a part that I have to order. I also dont want to spend my money on parts that I wont need because mostly everything that is needed is special order and special ordered parts are not refundable. I know theres several of you out there that have performed this job, how come no one wants to share info/help? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

The only reason that you would need a different radiator for your swap, is that the factory M6 radiator doesn't have provisions for a trans cooler. Since you're gonna install an external trans cooler anyway, you can keep your factory M6 radiator. The pedal assembly should be a bolt-in.

I appreciate that ...I didnt think anyone was going to chime in. The threads that came about while searching that were similar to this one had very little response too. But thanks for your help though.

I used the stock tube... Make sure you put it in prior to transmission.

I did not remove the pilot bearing. There was no problem with leaving it in there

As far as the pedal assembly, I swapped the whole assembly from an A4 car to mine.

You will also need a plate to cover the hole under the shifter and you will need a plate to cover the hole where the clutch master went through.

And I swapped out the whole engine harness to an A4 harness.. I also flashed my pcm with a A4 file to allow the computer to control all functions.. If you wanted to, I could swap harnesses with you, I would just need yours first.

I recently went to an A3, so I have the following parts laying around:

4l60E w/shift kit, drain plug
Vig 3600 Stall
A4 Upper Console (Will trade for M6)
A4 Crossmember/bushing
Torque Arm (M6 will work fine)
Dipstick Tube
A4 Shifter w/ **** and harness
A4 shifter cable (There is only 1 cable that I am aware of)

Shoot me an email if interested my99taws6@knology.net looking for a little cash or trades for nitrous related stuff etc
