Need help with ID of 4l80 parts
Just about done doing my rebuild on a 96 4l80 using a Trinity trans break and manual conversion, and I have these 3 parts that came out some where, and are not shown in the ATSG rebuild book or the instructions from Trinity. I dont have actual pics just yet, so drew them from memory. On the right is a spacer of some time, metal, and has I would guess a 1/4" hole or a bit smaller. Center is a pin with a rounded tip, and a metal lip. Last is a spring with a metal washer that curves down inside of it.
The manual 1-2 band servo was left untouched, and the low and reverse band servo was modified per Trinity instructions, none of witch involves removing any hard parts.
Thanks in advance.

Well I can't wait to hear an answer.
I just had the reverse servo out of my '98, I can tell you for sure the two parts on the left go into the reverse servo, right on the end of the pin before you put it in the piston and put the C clip on.
That pin on the right doesn't look like one I've ever seen, maybe it's modified or aftermarket.

ya, I cant wait for an answer, or a diagram that shows where they go.
The rod came out from somewhere, and I doubt this tranny had been opened up before. Sucks that I didnt take pictures, or keep track of things when I tore the trans down, as I was relying on the ATSG book to kinda tell me where everything went, and according to the book I have everything lol.
Well, anyone see a reason why I cant start the car, and leave it in park?

I would at least fix the rear servo. You may not get reverse. All you have to do is drop the pan and remove the rear cover. How much of the valve body did you dissassemble?

Thats exactly how my '98 4L80E was set up. And further more (I've metioned this before) I had to get a used servo assembly for my trans. The used one came out of a 2001 model and was identical to my '98
I don't know about running it but I definately not put it in reverse or low because without that spacer the piston is going to bottom out on the case (which is what broke my first one--pin too short)
Whats the secret
I've been told that before, but always end up taking the whole VB out to get the servo cover off.

Just wanted to say thanks guys! I did try it on jack stands with out getting the spring/spacer back in the reverse servo, and I had 2,3,4 and no R or 1st
Tore back into it, tried to pull the servo cover with the VB in place, nope, I could not get it, but you can get all the bolts out.
Well used the above exploded view, and re assymbled, filled with fluid, and bingo i have all gears! Havent had it on the ground yet to test it with the full load, but I did use the break, and the gas and everything seemed good to go. I will give it a little test tomorrow cruising around.
