Default 4l80e-switching from man. to auto

i tried to build a 4l80e full man, worked ok normal driving, but had a delayed 2-3 shift, and after driving around, realized i get tired of ract. down to first every stop-wasnt to bad w/400's, but the extra gear gets old-i got a good deal on a compushift controller w/display, got a spare 2004 trans, and have an hd2 shift kit-i plan on pulling the virgin v/b off the spare trans, doing the mods to it-the trans in the car already has the int. mods, pump and springs, from the 4l80e-3 kit
i'll have to ck and see if the pump valve mod is the same in both kits-my plan is to install the new v/b, plug in the elects., set it up, ck line pressures, see what happens-at least if i still have a problem, i will pull the trans apart and look for it when i install my stroker engine
has anyone switched back from manuel with just a v/b switch
my first plan was to go to a controller with the 4l80e, but was trying to save a buck-remember that one, lol

Trinity told me I can keep the internal mod from the Transgo 3 kit. The pump and return springs can stay. So you should be good to go.

My 4L80e has the transgo-3 kit, it has a very nice 1-2 shift, and an amazing 3-4 shift. I agree that the 2-3 shift is delayed some compared to the others, but I was under the impression that this was due to the mass of the drum having to reverse direction. I am interested to see how your next valve body works.

I have a few hundred miles on mine now, I had forgotten how nice it was to have OD in a car with a big motor.

here is where i mounted the display, easy to reach-i had the older Transgo HD2 kit, where you mod the plate-called them to see if i could update to the newer version that comes w/sep plate, they had me send the old kit to them,
so i will have the newer setup when i get it back, so i gotta wait for it-hope i get it fri, have it done sat
the compushift is all wired in ready to go, acculink setup on the carb, all i have to do is plug everything in and program it-sure is getting crowded under the dash, MSD 6010 carb/LS controller, Abbott speedometer converter, compushift controller, all the dam wiring, gauges, boost crap-how did it ever get this complicated, lol
twinturbo496-thats exactly how mine is, decent 1-2, incred. 3-4 shift
did you ever ck line pres? i have all my pres readings, i'll do it again after the mods

I'm going to check my line pressure this time around. Hopefully it will be good there. What kind of guage and hose did you use?

i went to NAPA, they ordered one, 300 lbs, had a long enough hose to bring inside the car-came with a bunch of fittings, so i used the 90 deg 1/8" pipe to clear the exhaust

Looks like you could not get a Transgo-3 kit to work either.

it worked, but not to my liking, didnt see the pump pressure i wanted-prob someone more experienced than me might have done some tricks to it, but seems like the 4l80e is just not gonna be a quick shifting 2-3 like a 400
i wouldnt go back to a man after driving around with the compushift setup-a 400 only has two gears to move from neut., but the 4l80e has 3 and stop & go you notice it more-i made a couple passes with it since going back to auto, seemed to be fine, best of all i dont need a laptop, the compushift has a display i mounted on my shifter, and i can pretty much make it do anything i want-i can do a man shift mode if i wanted to chassis dyno it, so it wont downshift on full throttle, and i can keep the lock up also at full throttle
(i found out how to get into its set memory, which had a 50% unlock, learned how to convert it to 100%, lol)
i just tried to do too many things at once, first time rebuilding a 4l80e, then also converting to man., and using a high stall converter, so i didnt know if i screwed something up, or it just didnt work right, but i just swaped out v/b's and plugged everything in, and it works-i now have a spare 2004 4l80e with no v/b, one day i will rebuild it for a spare

I am yet to find anyone that can ohnestly say that they are driving around with a proper working transgo-3 4l80E.

I will probably add all the electronics back into my box and run the rolssler electronic manual kit .

I just want to find some that is using it to ask a few questions first.

I think you guys messed something up, as my 2-3 shift is LIGHTNING fast, but still not harsh. It is faster than my 1-2 shift, which kicks the car sideways But mine is still electronic too.

Sorry , you have confused me.

This thread is about a transgo-3 kit not working properly.

Are you saying that your 4L80e transgo-3 shifts fast or that you have a 4L80E with another electronic manual VB that shifts fast or that you have a 4L80E that is full automatic that shifts fast.

I am hoping that you have the rossler electronic manual kit.

cheers

My tranny guy says he has had no problems with a delay on the 2-3 shift with the TG-3 kit. He also built my tranny, and it has no delay.

I *think* something is wrong (sort of) with forcd ind's tranny, as it still has that delay after converting to electronic VB, whereas mine has no delay. I'm pretty sure he said he still had issues in another thread, but now he has the electronic controller, so he can make up for it (by telling it to shift earlier at WOT).

I set it to shift at 5900 rpm, and it usually completes the shift around 6000 rpm (don't do it too often, have a bug in my OS with the TCC locking up when I don't want it to).

Ok , so you have a full auto box with an aftermarket controller .

who built your box?

cheers

How do you "set" the transgo-3 kit to shift at 5900???

I don't have the TG-3 kit. I was comparing my auto vb to his auto vb.

a little update-after a little fine tuning on the controller, i took the car out yesterday, mainly to play with the 2-3 shifts under power
i ran a couple 1/8 mile passes 2 weeks ago, but didnt pay attention to the shifting, was shakedown passes just to see if the trans controller would shift when i moved the shifter, not on its own
anyway, i tried a few full throttle 2-3 shifts (hard to get a procharged LS engine to not be smoking the tires, lol) and it was shifting real crisp, actually yanked the car sideways, and shifts were quick-now i am 100% satisfied with the setup, have my full auto and shifts great under power, runs 65 MPH @ 2000 RPM, converter set to lockup @ 50 MPH
i am old school, (even my LS engine is carb'ed) do all my paint, body, fabrication, engine building, rear end building, etc-but im prob more proud of working thru the build on this trans and the driveability, esp on the highway,
than most of the other stuff i have done
