Default TCI vs Yank

I dont mean to start a "Battle of the stalls" thread but this is kind of a serious question. Ive only heard of TCI a few times because all ive heard about was Yank stalls. I hear they have really good lockup which makes them a higher quality stall. I need a stall for a new built transmission I am getting for my car. I can get a TCI 3200 for 300 bucks...what my question to you is, is it worth it as far as quality/money? My car is a daily driven street car.

if your spending the money for a new built tranny, you might as well do it once and do it right with a Yank. search on here and you'll see allot of complaints about TCI, there flexplates are good though

this must be why I havent heard much about them. Ive always heard to go with a Yank stall... Im honestly looking for a used stall because of my budget, as long as its clean I dont mind

Give FTI a call. They are running a special right now. Regardless of who you choose to go with, don't cheap out with a TCI. Used is a big risk on a brand new transmission. You could totally ruin it if there is junk in the converter. If you do go used I would get it cut apart and cleaned.

You are comparing two very different converters. The TCI probably uses a stock front cover and an adapter to convert it over to the LS1 bolt pattern. Meaning it uses a lock up clutch out of a stock FWD converter. Where as the Yank will use a billet front cover and a much larger clutch. Plus you add in the factor that it is used, it gets very scary. I strongly suggest to get the billet front converter if you are using the 245MM converter. I also suggest getting a Circle D Billet version, but I am a little biased. I also offer a 278MM - 3000-3200 - non billet converter, but it uses the full size RWD lock up clutch. It will save you few bucks over the billet version and still be very strong. Just an FYI.

There is no comparison between the two. I would spend more money and do it right by running a Yank or Circle D. You can get a used Yank on the board for a decent price.

The concern with TCI is the weak factory lock-up clutch disintegrating and taking out your trans.

That being said, I ran a TCI 3000 for three years daily driving with many trips to the track and loved it. I replaced it with a Yank SS3600 and although it will flash 500rpm higher, neither my 60', my ET, nor MPH improved with the Yank. Sure, it's a better built converter, but the lack of performance gain was a disappointment.

I believe that my Transgo shift kit with PWM elimination was the key to longevity with the TCI.

I'm with a PTC 4000 right now, and I wished I had more money at the time to go with a Circle D. I regret it, then again it does get me around a lot better than the stock one. I'm hoping to get a built transmission and Circle D from a friend here in a couple of days.

Whatever you do, don't go cheap with a converter. I regret it everytime I step on the gas

I've had good experiences with both TCI and Yank. The Yank was much prettier to look at, thats for sure.

Performance wise, very little difference.
TCI 4400: 11.36@120 1.53 60'
Yank PT4000: 11.31@120 1.58 60'

If you go TCI be careful of it's lockup clutch. Mine lasted about 6 months daily driver, then the lockup clutch started slipping and making a grinding noise.

Yank, Vig/PI, or Circle D

I am pretty certain the above mentioned converters are the best on the market.

Give Tracey a call at Rev Extreme. He has a few yanks that have been traded in by customers wanting more performance that he will probably make you a deal on or I can build you one of our billet converters.Go to our website and look at the SRL page.
