M6 to TH400 swap questions

M6 to TH400 swap questions Getting sicks of the missed shifts every so often. Loosing to A4s in brackets so i am going to make the leap.
TH400 with a 4200 converter. Mods. BMR track pack,Heads/cam,12 bolt strange 4.10s. I do not drive the car on the street that much. It gets trailered to the track now.
I only want to do this once and do it right. I am not on a budget.
Tranny,converter,trans cooler. Anything i am missing? Do i need a new support for the BMR torque arm? Dipstick? What about a driveshaft loop?
Best places to get a TH400? Which brand of converter? I did a search and read a crapload last night and was overloaded with alot of info. I have looked at two different sponsers. If someone else has some insight to give me a strong shove in the right direction I would be very gratefull.

My total cost for everything was about $3400. I decided to go with Madman's kit because my buddy Jeff has one in his 9.57et Z-28 and has never given him a problem. Brian at Madman is also easy to deal with, and bends over backwards to make you happy. I still prefer to deal with small shops for most major purchases. I am sure the Rossler and Yank make fine products. But I wanted to go with a known quantity and had seen how well the tranny worked first hand.

Re: M6 to TH400 swap questions Yeah, its attatched to the cooler, and I have it on a manual switch. Do whatever it takes to keep the tranny temp down. With a large stall, it is life and death if you drive it on the street.

Re: M6 to TH400 swap questions I also have a rossler unit. I've never heard anything bad about them. Their knowledge and customer service seems very good as well. Some of yank's stuff seems kind of pricey for what you get though.

I drive my TH400 on the street all the time, in the summer the crusing temps usually get to 180-190, sometimes 200 if I'm in a lot of stop and go...

Measure how big your cooler is, then you need to decide if you want it to push or draw air. I think Spal's website is www.spal-usa.com . They are located in Des Moines Iowa, and shipped me my fan the same day I ordered.
Talk to one of thier order/tech people about requirement and fitments. They have a very wide selection of fans, and have good customer service.

I can cruise around fine. In fact, it's a blast! However, on the freeway it winds up like crazy. My car turns 3500 at 70.
I'm actually going to swap the M6 and TH400 in and out of the car frequently next year. Now that it's done and doing well it will be nice to do that and have some nice street/highway attitude. The only other way is to use a gear vendors overdrive, which I'm not going to do.
I can cruise around fine. In fact, it's a blast! However, on the freeway it winds up like crazy. My car turns 3500 at 70.

Re: M6 to TH400 swap questions yea, the shifter is the big thing for me, i dont really want something that looks like its not suppsed to be in there. the quater stick or cheatah's are a little too much for me.

Re: M6 to TH400 swap questions Tell me this doesn't look like it belongs in the car. It's the B&M Hammer in my 99 T/A i did the M6 > TH400 conversion about a year and a half ago and it's great Daily driven.

Re: M6 to TH400 swap questions The shifts on mine are extremely solid. When I shift on the street at lower RPM's you can't even feel it, it's very smooth. When I shift at the track it's smooth as silk too. Down shifting is nice under power, but depending on if you have 2nd gear banded or free wheeled you will see varying results on the various trannies.
As far as the freeway, I certainly have enjoyed a couple down shift blasts on the freeway after the Woodward Dream Cruise. But I miss the overall foot shifting experience and the higher shifting band that the extra two gears gives me.
I use a Cheetah shifter in the car and it's very nice!
