Default Might be looking for a stall soon need some advice

I am going to be looking for a stall, but would like to keep things budget minded. I want decent quality, so I'm not going too cheap. I'm hoping I can find something good for under $600, and under $500 would be better.

Right now I'm thinking 2800-3200...but keep reading about people with 3400-3600 who are very happy.

My car is driven a lot on the street so I don't want to slaughter my in town mileage too much. I also hate the way a friends Vig4000 feels in town...runs great but the slipping at low speed would drive me nuts. It makes it feel like something is wrong with the car.

I don't go to the track very often so I'm not looking for all out ET, just a great street converter so my car will stop pulling through the brakes.

Another thing is that my car is likely a couple hundred pounds heavier than many f bodies so the stall will mostly likely be higher than rated anyway.

Sounds like Yank's SS series might be for you. Great daily driver converters and really tight for their stall speed. Definitely call these folks....they have some of the best converters in the business. You might pay a little more that you're wanting, but it's certainly worth it. 3-year warranty, topnotch performance....you can't go wrong!

I see you're close to LR somewhat. If you're ever down this way, let me know in advance. There are a few different stalled combos around here that would let you sample different setups and see what you like. Good luck!

i have a vig 3200 that is beyond very drivable and thats what i wanted. i wasnt out to set records or anything and i wanted my car to feel close to stock when driving and this stall is perfect. after seeing how drivable it is, u probably can step up to atleast a 3600 size stall. just make sure that you dont go cheap on a converter. go with quality converts like circle D, yank, and vigilante.

Had a Vig 3600 put in my GTO yesterday, not too loose at all. Feels like the Vig 3200 did in my TA, of course the GTO has 3.46 gears v.s. the 3.23. If you've never driven a stall like that before it takes very little time to get used to it. Just my opinion, but I think anything smaller than a 3200 is almost a waste. I've tested a 2800 and it felt no tighter. The only converter that will feel completely stock is the factory one. I suggest you drive a car with a stall before deciding on one.

It sounds like your friend's vehicle was never tuned for the stall. This is a must do. My 3400 stall slipped like crazy until the tune; now it just hits like gangbusters when I nail it. And this is on a full weight T-topped car.

PY are tailored for FI and nitrous combos. The SS will also work well with nitrous, but will offer better NA performance. The PY are supposed to be very, very tight converters when used in NA applications. Some have said too tight for NA applications....you might leave some performance on the table with this series if you're not FI or spraying big hits. A local guy ran a PYE3600 and never really liked it. He was H/C with 3.73's and although I never physically raced him, I followed one night and I was pulling up on him hard each time he raced the car next to him.

The SS series are one of Yank's most popular options. Do a search on here and you'll see countless positive reviews. They'll give you all the great effects of a good converter and be at least as streetable, if not more so, than any other converter you can find in the same stall range. The SS3600 was on sale recently....not sure if it still is, but you might be in luck.

thanks for the details

unfortunately by looking at my bills for the month after buying a FAST 90/90 I think I should really wait on the converter (I just pray the flexplate isn't cracked in the car now) but I want to be more educated on them before buying unlike my cam

my cam starts to build massive torque right at 3000rpm is why I was looking at that area, especially knowing my car is a little heavier, but it sounds like the 3400 or 3600 might still be very good choices for me

Looking at your mods, you stand to gain a LOT with a good converter. That stock converter has got to be holding you back quite a bit. Definitely the best mod for an auto car bar none. Save that cash so you can wake her up!!

I found a friend with hp tuners, so I am going to save $400 on my retune. All of that will be going into the converter savings.

Now that you budget is bigger, I would suggest out Billet street/strip series. I think a 3C or 4C converter should be perfect for you, about a 3600 stall. It will really wake the car up. They are the best mod for an auto car. You will be amazed at how much faster they make your car. Easily knocking of .5, probably .7 in the 1/4 mile. Please call or PM for more question.

Good deal....you're going to be shocked at what you gain. On top of that, it just makes the car so much more fun to drive.

Like I said, if you ever make it down this way, give a shout. The LSX scene is pretty impressive in LR, and we always like to meet new folks. Your car looks like quite a ride, and we'd love to check it out. Good luck!

We offer our SRLS series billet 9.5" converters at a special price to LS board users.Call or pm for details. 3600 would be my stall of choice but save your ducks and get the correct converter the first time as you wont be disapointed.
