New 4l60e transmission, loses speedometer randomly and then wont ****
***posting this using socalspd's account because I dont have a ls1tech user name***
I just installed a used 4l60e from another car to replace my slipping tranny. It works fine and no slippage etc. Drove it for about 3 days then all of a sudden the speedometer dropped to zero and the car was not in gear. Basically the computer kicks it out of gear because it doesnt know how fast you are going.
When i come down below about 20mph it will go into first gear and I have first gear but theres nothing above that.
When I let the car sit over night, it works fine for about 1-2 minutes of driving until it warms up then speedo drops to zero and i lose all the gears above first.
Things ive tried:
1) changed speedometer sensor on tailshaft of tranny
2) pulled speedo sensor out and looked at wheel that speedo sensor reads off of and its not damaged or lose from the output shaft
3) checked electrical wiring to speedo sensor, nothing looks damaged
4) tranny fluid doesnt smell burnt, is full and looks new
Anyone have any ideas?

Do you have a service vehicle soon or check engine light?

I think I found it...
Looks like there are 2-3 wires in the loom coming down from the engine harness that have worn through over time to bare wires. From moving the wiring around while having the tranny out they are touching each other randomly. I just moved them around a bit and the speedo works again.
Im relooming and repairing them right now, hopefully should fix the problem
