Default Broken Case on TH400

So I was mating the engine and trans today and was tightening one of the bolts when it popped loud and a chunk of the case has broken off. what can I do about it? is it still usable?

something must not have been flush, or was a tight fit over the locating dowle
it can be repaired, needs another case or jig bolted to it to keep it flush-a larger trans shop welds them all the time-i repaired one in the 11 o clock hole

saw thye bell housing off and put an ultra bell on it.It is SFI approved and wont break. We have them in stock for 229.00.Ends this problem. You need to make sure the converter was all the way in though.

If he broke that part of the case, chances are good he also broke the pump in the trans too. Good carnage bro! Congrats! Lesson learned

I probably didn't have the verter in properly, although I didn't really think there was a wrong way to do that....... must have just got too much pressure on it. What do you mean saw it off and put an SFI bellhousing on? I didn't know you could just tear up the case

I'd say put an ultra bell on as well. Thats what I have on mine. Also look to see if your bell housing is hitting the bolts on the back of the motor that hold the rear plate on. I had to grind my bell housing because it was hitting bolt heads on the back of the block.

Yes, you can cut the bellhousing off and the Ultrabell bolts to the pump.

Will the ultra bell fit a 4L80E?

I'm sure someone makes one for a 4l80e. PM a vendor or maybe one will chime in.

Hmmm ok but for cheap fix until I can get money for an ultra bell, I can get a shop to weld it?

Its a little more involved than just sawing it off.We put our in the mill and machine them for a perfect fit but you can do it a home with a sawzall if you are carefull. The new bellhousing will bolt directly to the pump.

I had the same thing happen with my TH350. How can you tell if you broke the pump? Mine has been fixed, but I didn't think about the internals being damaged.
