Default 700R4 to LS1 Question

I am putting a late model 700R4 into my 99SS. I am aware of the need for a VSS, my question is on the converter. I have read a bunch and am just a bit confused. I am planning on using a 4L60E converter, do I need a flat flexplate and spacers off a 6L/4L80E or a adapter and LS1 plate, or any LS1 plate and the 4L60E converter?

1 convertor-housing bolt will have to be left out (but u know that) and u would use the LT1-style convertor w/ the smaller input splines and a spacer on the convertor pilot. Convertor manufacurers can build one that won't need a spacer, but if u have a trans/convertor now this would be the way to go. Did u figure out the TV cable operation w/ the LS t-body? It's not too bad.

Will a LS1 converter work with the 700R4 and remove the need for the spacer?

No, the ls1 uses a different input shaft and the splines are different. It may be possible to build a 700 using the stator support and input drum from a LS1 style unit, but I have never tried. Things that make u go hmmm.

Now that I think about it, maybe all u need is the right input drum from a LS1 tranny........

That is exactly where I was leading! I was gonna get a hardened LS1 input drum, LS1 converter and see if it would work. Gonna replace the drum either way and am looking to save a little money not needing a spacer, etc.
