Please do not use the radiator for cooling. You should bypass the radiator when hooking up a new cooler. Reason being, i lost my transmission due to the radiator leaking fluid into the stock lines. I swapped out my stall and ran an external cooler. I didn't drop the pan because it had recently been rebuild just before I bought it...well the damage was done and i ruined the clutch on a perfectly good stall and ruined the transmission, no reason anyone else needs to make this mistake..

I bought my cooler from Jegs, I got the most efficient one I could find @ a parts store. It's like the 78 dollar one, but i couldn't find one that did a better job. You can check that one out as well.

Any recommendations for a th400 and a 3200 precision, going between 750-900rwhp?

I'm doing a T56 to th400 swap and I don't know **** about autos

I would like to go ahead and state my opinions, since this thread seems to be going on for a while.
First, those who think they are doing themselves or their transmission a favor by keeping the factory "cooler" in line are deluding themselves. In fact, when I purchased my high performance tranny, the rebuilder stated flat out that they would not honor their warranty if the factory unit was kept in line. Nuff said.
Second, there comes a point of diminishing returns. In other words, you could spend $1000 on a cooling solution and not have much better results than if you spent $100.
Get a reasonable bar and plate type cooler. $60-80 for a complete kit should do it. Place it in the air stream. In front of the condenser is fine; it will not raise the air temps that much (I have run one for years in this position, and my a/c is frost cold and the water temps are consistently 180-190). If you are fanatical about it, get one with a fan. Overkill IMHO unless you are hotlapping it at the track, but they are around. And get a tranny temp gauge, why spend this money if you can't monitor the results.
AFA brands, I run a B&M but there are other brands out there.
Rant over, thanks for listening.

I run the cooler you posted. I installed mine so it's not blocking the condenser and still in the air stream.

Thats my power steering cooler on the drivers side behind the air dam.

That's where mine is mounted also, no spacers though. I run mine through the rad first, through the B&M cooler and back to the trans.
You'll get many an argument over whether or not to still use the radiator in line. Iv'e been told to us it and I do. I do run a tune that has the fans come on early and a 160 stat. The motor never goes over 190 degrees in traffic or back to back runs at the track.

I wonder if there's any line pressure lost, having it that far away? Any idea?

I'm wondering if i will be better off with something bigger, or is this the biggest one they offer. In a few months ill be installing a Yank (most likely) 3600 stall and i want to go ahead and install the cooler now so that its one less thing i have to do later.

What do you guys go with?
That's the one I am using on my car with it dope mounted. It's cooling a 4L80 with a SS4000 Yank. I keep a close eye on it and have not seen temps exceed 190. I bypassed the radiator and so should you lol.

I just got an installed the same cooler as luckyyou03 got (I think) It was the biggest B&M Supercooler I could buy (highest GVW rating). Would running this cooler by itself be enough to the cool the transmission?! I will be putting in a 3600ish stall sometime down the road and I can NOT afford a transmission. Right now I have it ran through the stock cooler then the trans cooler. It is just a few lines to move to bypass the stock cooler, but to do this do I need a larger cooler?

No. I think it would actually run warmer if you keep the stock "cooler" in line.

Well I am installing my trans temp gauge today so I will run it a few days (till I can get a plug for the stock cooler hose) and then switch over to just the supercooler and see how big a difference it really is.

Is there a difference between these units as far as horse power goes? Some one posted that it would support his transmission to 500rwhp

After some city driving in some hot weather mine has reached 225. On the highway it stays 170-180
