as you can see on the groove of the washer, there is a groove like that on the "divider". Is that the issue? THe washer needs to be able to go into the divider correct? So a washer that is just a smidgin smaller would work? It baffles me if this is the problem because it was working before this. I want to get the washer issue straight before I put the servo back in with the seal in the correct direction. IS the hole for the pin 7/16"?

Yes the washer must be able to go into the hole. I think the pin is metric but have not really had a reason to measure one.

what about the washer stacking? the one washer goes under the e-clip, does the washer being added go between the E-clip and the 4th piston? nothing holding it down?
should I find the 7/16" washer and grind the outer edge down so that it will fit into the hole on the divider?

Yes It should go between the 4th piston and the e clip provided they even intended for you to use a washer at all with that servo. Looking at the picture you have they dont appear to show using any washer between the servo and eclip.

Yes if using a washer it would need to be the same size OD.
Once you reinstall the servo make sure do do a quick test.
With the rear wheels off the ground and the car in neutral (NOT RUNNING) (EBRAKE OFF) you should be able to turn the drive shaft in both directions. It will be more difficult to turn one way than the other. As long as you can turn it both way you are good. If it will only turn one way and not the other the washer you used is to thick and has the band to tight.

update: found time to go out and throw it back together. The washer I originally had on there was good, it did fit inside the divider like supposed to. I flipped the servo seal around like it was supposed to be. topped off the fluid, went for a drive and it's still not working. I'll take it apart now and try a washer if you think it may help. I've got one the same size, but have to wallow the 3/8"hole out to 7/16th.

If your sure you getting the comand for 4th then thats all else I would know to do. The other options are the 3-4 shift valve is stuck or theres some issue with the 4th accumulator.
But from reading Franks (CPT) post he blocked the 4th acum so it should be out of the picture.
I would try the washer remember to check that the drive shaft will turn both ways like i said above.

Frank, that you so much for all the help. It's fixed. I opened it back up this morning and got a 3/8" washer the width of the one under the E-clip, I did what I said and wallowed it out to 7/16" and put it back together between the e-clip and the servo. I checked the clearance and it was fine (not hard to turn). topped it off and went for a drive and did what it was supposed to. I appreciate all the help. Whenever this trans goes to crap you've got my business.
