Default Should i get an A4?

I need you A4 guys to tell me what I will like and dislike if I trade my car in for an 01 SS A4. I'm kinda gettin tired of that 6speed anyways, and it seems like autos are where its at for the 1/4. What do you guys think?

You'll miss the 6 speed at times, for sure. There are times when I wish I had the 6 speed. But for drag racing, an automatic with a decent torque converter and shift kit are where it's at. DO plan for a good rebuild eventually though. Like all things, race it and break it. The good news is parts for the 4L60 are dirt, dirt cheap compared to the M6 and labor is about the same.

It depends on what you are using the car for, if you are autoxing you could do the M6 but for drag racing defiantly the A4 w/converter.

Lightbulb Well , here's what I like:

"Lazy man's" machine - I can eat, drink, & drive at the same time.

The 1 M6 I drove I liked, but I thought the clutch was pretty stiff, and I had a hard time getting comfortable.

I wound up sitting way close up to not feel like I had to move my leg a mile getting the clutch all the way in !

The A4 = sit wherever you want.

As stated before, A4 = stall converter opportunity , which my car had installed (2800 ) by the prior owner.

Took me awhile to get used to the slippage, and it still catches me off guard on steep hills or driveways (not many around H-Town !) , but that's minor.

You will learn to take advantage of the WOT kickdowns , but you will also learn where there is no decent kickdown , like around 31 - 40 MPH.

The stall helps out somewhat, but there is still a dead band.

WOT sweet spots are 25 - 30 MPH , where it kicks down to first , and 65 - 70 , where it will drop from OD to 2nd.

And, my old lady can drive an auto , so in case I wanna do this it's all good !!

My .02.

Yes. With a good stall, your M6 will be nothing but a slow memory.

If you are getting tired of the M6 trade it and stall the a4 and you will never look back.

With EDIT, I have my kickdown up to 40 and 80.

I've had both, and like the A4 much better. I never miss my 6 speed. With a large enough converter, dead spots aren't really a problem. I was tired of shifting, too.
