Well guys I was supposed to have my cooler/converter/shift kit installed tommorrow but I had a run in with the guy at the shop. Ok heres how it goes, I called and asked about coming tommorrow, he said he wouldnt put the shift kit in and I needed to but a B&M programmer, I told this guy I had done extensive research and the shift kit is the thing to do. Then he proceded to say that w/o a cam the converter was worthless and offered absouletly no performance gain and that I had wasted my money. He said that it would be an *** an the street. Then the guy proceded to get angry at me and I called him a dumb *** and hung up. This is the guy that installed my gears very well. Needless to say that im pissed and I defiantly need to find another speed shop or garage to put my converter in. Thanks for listenin.

You are correct. He is indeed a dumbass. A converter for an A4 is the single best...let me reiterate, THE SINGLE BEST mod that you can make. It's better than a cam, it's better than heads, it's better than heads AND cam. It can potentially give you gains of 7 tenths in the 1/4 mile and a few MPH to boot, all the while not effecting highway gas mileage.

Find a new shop. The guy recommends a B&M programmer over a shift kit and says that a converter offers no gains on it's own??? What a class A dumbass. I wouldn't trust him to change my oil.

I just finished putting a SS3600 in my car, basicly stock with a few bolt ons and nitrous. The difference is night and day. Traction in first is a JOKE! I havn't hit the track yet on slicks but I can tell it's going to be a monster out of the hole. Shift recovery is also much improved. I can punch the gas anywhere under 50mph and it's ice skating rink time. There are no dead spots (like the 40-45mph dead spot) anymore, and it only drops to 4800rpm between shifts. The car pulls SO hard in 2nd it's amazing, and continues to pull much harder in 3rd than it ever did. Top of 2nd into 3rd feels like I'm spraying, and I havn't even sprayed on the converter yet.

The guy who were talking to is a COMPLETE tool. The B&M controller is JUNK, probably does more harm than good. A good shift kit is the only way to go. Since you're going to have the trans on the ground anyway, you should get a billet intermediate servo from PATC for $89. Makes the 1-2 shift really firm and has better release on the 2-3 and 3-2 shifts. It's an easy mod that can be done without even taking the transmission pan off. Good move on the Transgo shift kit, probably the best out there.

Stick with your plan, don't listen to that moron. You'll love that converter so much you'll wonder how you ever lived without it

Well guys thanks, but now I have to find somewhere to get it put in but I think I will be able to. I might look into the billet servo. Ahhh its been over an hour and im still pissed at how retarted this dude is. I should smack myself for even letting him put my gears in. He will never get anymore business from me. O and another thing I had to convince him that you DID need an aftermarket cooler to go along with the stock one for the sake of your transmission. Thanks guys.

I won't say that you absolutely HAVE to install a tranny cooler with an aftermarket converter but it's SUCH a great help in keeping your tranny cool (heat is the number one killer of tranny friction materials) and it's so cheap, why the heck wouldn't you? Your tranny will thank you for keeping those temps below 200.

Try Carolina Auto Masters in NC. Jeff Creech is the man to talk to there.

Yah, the Colonel pretty sums it all up in his first reply. LOL, I can't believe he said a converter is useless.

With the stock 'verter, the A4 can be unimpressive at times. With an aftermarket piece, it becomes a beast, ready to haul *** with a flick of your right foot.

Let us know how the mods turn out, man.

I am one month away from my Yank 3000 (mild) converter install, and I am going through a VERY reputable local transmission shop, where I have done business for over 25 yrs. The owner himself suggested a "Transgo" shift kit, along with a 2-4 servo change. He knows I do not go to the track, however his words were "If you are going to do it, do it right". I am also replacing my flexplate with the TCI SF-29 approved version (total overkill).

I would say the origonal shop did not know what they were talking about, and I certainly would not deal with them.

Good luck;
