Default bye bye stock tranny

well i was driving around tonite and i went to pass another car...i switched lanes and gave the car a LITTLE gas...just as i stepped on the gas, the car hit a big bump and i guess the tires broke loose because i felt a HARD jolt forward and a slight noise coming out of the car....i got to my friends house a couple blocks away and i go past his house a little to see if the car is ok....i go to make a 3 point turn and go back and when i put it in reverse....tranny gives out completely....reverse is gone now and the forward gears move the car but they slip too much to even drive it anywhere...

my buddy has blown up a bunch of 4L60s because his tranny guy was apparantly a hack....he told me i probably either toasted the converter or the sunshell....either way i gotta shell out for a tranny rebuild now....

well i checked it out again today....converter is shot (dont even get me started on the TCS thing)...tranny may also me nice and messed up....theres some nice metal in the damn fluid .

my tentative plan rather than a simple rebuild is to throw out the stock tranny and invest in a level one combination motorsports 4L60E and a 3200 vigilante...im gonna be in a lot of debt but hopefully this wont snap under the immense force of my mighty 337 RWHP bolt on car...

So you are saying you had a TCS stall in the car and you think that was the problem? I'm not trying to get you started so to say just asking for those of us that have one still. How many miles were on the trans? How much track/street abuse had it seen?

yes it was a TCS converter......the car has 56K miles on it, i have put 11K on it since i bought it.....about 40 passes on the track this year and only about 30 or so that with the converter in...id say about 7K miles on the converter....OCCASIONAL abuse on the street but the car was normally driven very carefully under normal conditions...

a friend of mine who knows trannies is just about positive that the converter is at least partially to blame...i haven't taken the trans out yet but the car is exhibiting the symptoms of a broken converter.....

usually converters don't break but it CAN happen....that same tranny guy managed to tear the turbine apart in a 700R4 converter a couple years ago....

BTW: there wasn't any warning....2 weeks before this i ran a couple 1.6X 60 foot times and a handful of low 1.7Xs so it was performing apparantly right up until the end....

BTW im not trying to add any fuel to the TCS fire...im not accusing anyone of shotty workmanship YET im just saying right now, its very possible the converter is broken....(also, i never did anything abnormal to the transmission like neutral drops or anything like that....light track use thats it)

ill know when the new trans arrives and i swap them out...ill keep you all posted...

I wonder if Derek ( TCS ) is actually going to open that other shop and actually warr his old converters like that guy RED had posted. Maby you should hang onto that piece and see if that ever happens. Ofcourse we never heard from them again so who knows. Sorry that I was the one who recomended TCS to you in the first place.
