Shift kit necessary?

Shift kit necessary?
I plan on getting a TCI SSF3500 and was wondering if i would really need a shift kit with it? I run 3.23 gears also. I know it will shift better if I were to run a shift kit but didn't know if I needed it right away. When you run a shift kit, it would be wise to run a tranny cooler as well right? Thanks

its not necessary but shift kits help tighten things back up when you put on a loose converter..."When you run a shift kit, it would be wise to run a tranny cooler as well right?" its not the shift kit that makes the extra heat its the converter and yah id say for $50 its good insurance even with the stock converter...usually lowers your temps by about 50 degrees.

Cooler is always a good idea with an aftermarket converter. The shift kit is not absolutely necessary, but it will often make the shifts feel tighter when running a loose converter.

Yea man shift kit is not necessary but if you want to have a good setup I would strongly recommend having one put in. It will tighten your converter up and help with shifts. You should defiantly purchase a transmisson cooler with you verter.

4thgen, when you use a programmer to increase firmness(line pressure) you arent actually increasing the pressure, you are just dictating a different point at which the pressure will be released. A shift kit WILL increase the pressure.

Well, it looks like as if i'll have to wait on that TC. Just a few days ago my tranny started to slip, but only when it was cold. So i when to my shop and they told me that it was starting to go out. Also the fluid was brownish and not pink. So some kind of level 1 or possibly 2 tranny will be in the near future. Thanks for the help.

Just curious, would the shifts be very sloppy w/o a shift kit and could this be helped with some type of tuning device, I was thinking of calling the shop tommorrow and telling them not to worry about the shift kit if it could be corrected with a programmer because im very skeptical about drilling in my valve body. Also how will the shift kit effect the reliability/life of a tranny. Thanks guys.
