Default Do I Have A 4l60 Or A 4l65e ??????????

i have bought a drivetrain out a "supposely" 06 ss siverado truck, which comes with a lq9 & 4l65e tranny, but after doing the "check the piston" test im thinking that its a lq4 and came out of a 1500 06 siverado.
i want to make sure of what i have before i run off spending money to later find out its something else.

The block confirms that it did come out of a 06 truck, but as we all know it wont tell me anything else. So i have pulled off the sn off the tranny itself can somebody please help me decode this so ill have piece of mind and will be able to move foward with my build PLEASE.!!!! Ive spent hourrssss online trying to do this myself but i have been incapable of doing so.

tranny seriel number is
c61275321

Likley its a 65e in that year, But more important what are you trying to do that makes this so important?
From and installation perspective they are identical and in reality stock the strength between the two is near neglegable.
And from a built perspective the same.

The half tons in 06 didn't have the LQ4, but the H2 had the LQ4 and 4l65 that year. So it still could be either motor. Pull a head if your in doubt and wanted a LQ9.

Flat tops=LQ9
Dished=LQ4

Well it's important for me because it will help me find out exactly what kind of motor I have without having to pull the head out. If I a 4l60 then I don't have a lq9. Which will help me decide what cam I need to get.
Thanks for the help guys this is really bugging me.

I think the SS's were all AWD in 06 so it may not be an SS motor if its a 2wd trans. But I can't remember if they offered a 2wd SS?

The regular 1500 silvarado's had the Vortecmax option and VHO option as well that had the LQ9.

Remove a spark plug put a cylinder at TDC shine a light in there and see if they are flat or dished. Might be hard to see though.

Do you have the VIN of the donor truck? I can run it and see what it is.

i thought they where all wheel drive too, but this is what i found from pickuptrucks.com

"Chevrolet is sneaking a 2-wheel-drive version of the Silverado SS into the market, and a company official tells PickupTruck.com that the current all-wheel-drive setup will not be available in the 2006 model year. He also left open the possibility that a sportier regular-cab SS model might come on the scene and offered a sneak peek at a facelift that next year’s 1500 models will receive."

i tried looking inside the cynlinder and i still cant tell if its dished or not
arrggg soooo frustrating!!!

is there anywhere to check with the tranny with its sn????

It has to be an 4l65 if its still stock. Because even the 2wd trucks had the LQ9/4l65. The H2's were all 4x4 LQ4/4l65's

I wouldn't worry to much as even the stock 4l65 didn't take much more abuse than the 60.

Just run what you got till its breaks then get a built FLT trans.

The only way with the S/N is maybe the dealer. There should be a bar code and service number I believe as well.
