Question: Stall installation

So i did my stall the other day and did all of the correct measurements before i put the tranny back on. When i put the transmission back on and got everything tight, i went to tighten up the torque converter to the flex plate, but there was about an 1/8th inch gap.

When i put the bolts in and tightened it up it pulled the converter all the way up to the flex plate and tightened up.

My question is, did i do something wrong in the install? And if i did do something wrong was i supposed to put a shim between the flex plate and the torque converter?

I started it up and drove it home from my buddies place which is about 8 miles away and everything felt fine, no weird noises or grinding.

So what did i do wrong?

Any help will be appreciated

Your ok with 1/8 ,you will be fine.I believe anything over 1/4 and you have too use shims or else you pull the converter out of the pump too far.

Another question, if it is off is there any signs of it? any vibrations or sounds i should be looking for. I'm kind of nervous to drive it because i do not want to blow the trans/converter up. How long would it take for it to go if it was off?

Dont be nervous to drive it. You want the converter to pull forward 1/8th inch when you bolt it up to the flexplate. its perfectly normal

Yeah your ok, my yank was a 1/4" away and I threw some 0.125" washers in and cut it down to 0.125" (1/8") clearance. I've got 10k with it like that and no problems.

It is a good idea to use new bolts when you put a new converter in. My vigilante came with bolts but were too short because I had to shim mine. Got some longer bolts and all was good. Just make sure they are good quality bolts.....Grade 8 or better.
