Default How safe is this stall for a dd?

Just wondering what I'm looking at in terms of tuning and reliabilty of this stall. I was thinking a Fuddle 3400 (2.1 str) or similar stall with a cooler. How reliable are these on stock a4s? Can I tune for it using my predator? Do I require a shift kit?

Thanks guys.

Circle D? I've heard good things about yank and vig too. Hmmm, any way to tell current condition of trans? It has 98,000km on it (60,000 miles or so?).

60,000 it should probably still be in pretty good shape. with a smaller stall like you're interested in and a cooler you should be good. check the fluid to see if it's still pink or if it's brownish and burnt. i have 100k miles on my car, trans has been serviced regularly, and fluid is still fresh but i'm not going to risk it since it's my daily driver. i'm saving up so when it goes i can just throw in a built one so i won't have to worry.

The stall doesnt brake the trans the go pedal does. The transmission will show wear and tear just like we do. The harder you beat on it the more wear it shows.I recomend a cooler as well and a shift kit wouldnt hurt.

A SRLS series billet 9.5" 3600 is one of the most popular converters for these cars with great driveability and low heat generation.

I have a Circle D and my SS is my dd... no problems at all... and to me a trans cooler is a must for any larger stall than stock... you will be more than happy with a Circle D... they will take care of you...

Reliability should be no problem. A lot of the horror stories you hear about the 60e are due to an inferior converter lock up clutch failing and take out the trans with it. Another area of concern is the trans temps. I do suggest to add a cooler with a performance converter, it will keep the temps down to a normal level. I have never used a predator to tune, but if it will adjust shift points and lock up MPH then you should be good to go. You might need to remove the some error checking as well. The sensors might pick up some misfires and keep the converter from locking. You can get a shift kit installed but it is not needed for the converter to work. Be happy to go over any details and questions you might have, hope to talk to you soon.

Ditto as Chris said. This is why you would want a billet cover and a billet lock up piston like ours or chris's with a large lining. We use a propeitary lining designed and tested for extreme duty applications.

we also have a bolt together model

i am kinda in the same boat looking for a good stall but want it to be easily driveable when used on the streets, would say a 3600 be pushin the driveability on a stock 60e? If so what would you recommend? I hear a lot of guys out there wishing they went "bigger" on their stalls.. not tryin to hijack your thread sorry

i agree. i don't think even the crappiest monet is worth a single torque converter, but that might just be my insomnia talking. you could probably get about 20,000 fuddles for a monet these days.

i've had a fuddle 3400 converter in my car since 65k miles with the stock trans and it's been my dd since day 1. it's got 120k on it now with zero problems. just a trans cooler and shift kit. i couldn't even begin to tell you how many times i've sprayed a 125 to 150 shot on it. the only thing giving me problems is the weak 2nd to 3rd shift but thats gonna happen when you have 120k miles on the stock trans with a lot of abuse. otherwise i've been extremely happy with it. i purchased the converter in mid 2006. ive put 2 trips from north carolina to illinois and 2 trips from illinois to arizona on it. trans temps never see over 190 degrees. not real sure on where the company stands now a days though.

FTI or YANK are my top choices. i would say 3600 stall is good for a DD, anything less isnt worth the dough in my opinion

I love my yank 2800, add a cooler in along with it, and you will be fine.

someone who is happy with something below a 3600!

how is it pedal-proportionally? i'm looking for a converter i can ease into it with for a little RR and autox. sometimes kickdown is way too much but the stock stall has a nasty dead spot up until 2500ish. looking into a 3200ish but i want something as small as possible to minimize heat.

Make sure you have a cooler, and you should be fine. I drive my 01 WS.6, with a Performabuilt Level 2 '60e, and their 4k stall (1.69 str) every chance i have. I have a large cooler (bypassed radiator) and i havent had a single problem yet.. And let me tell you, a built trans, 3.73s and a 4k stall is a FUN ride!!

As for tuning, you may need more than a Predator to do the proper tuning.
