Tell me what i need to fix/replace
A friend of mine recently picked up a 2010 ss and is selling me his 98 z28 for dirt cheap. 185k on the clock, but runs like a champ with the exception of the trans.
its a full bolt on car with mild weight reduction down to ~ 3100lbs. 3400 stall and 3.73 rear.
flt level 4 trans put in about 20k miles ago. car has sat for almost a year while he was deployed. 1st and 2nd gear slip like a ****; im talking quarter throttle and it holds 3000 rpms while the car slowly gets up to speed. stomp it, and itll bounce off the limiter. once it gets to 3rd, everything is peachy and pulls hard, but doesn't lock up in 4th.
i'd assume that the clutch packs are shot and theres a dead solenoid somewhere. however, when we went to check the trans fluid, it was perfect. like just poured, light clear pink, no signs of any particles in it. no burnt smell, no signs of anything wrong.
i'm assuming it needs a rebuild, but the clear fluid is throwing me off. and no, it hasn't been changed recently either.
so tell me, new trans? or something simpler? whats the cheapest and quickest way to get it on the road?

just hoping that there are some smaller things i could check before sinking in a good sized chunk of change for a rebuild.
