Default Trans Pan

Sooner or later this winter I am going to be pulling the engine and trans to do upgrades. I was looking at adding a deeper pan to my 4l60e. The only question I have is does anyone know how much, inch wise, different pans add to the bottom of the trans? I will be lowering the car in the near future (hopefully koni/strano) and the trans is the last thing I want to catch on speedbumps, etc. I was looking at silverado pans, tci, and b&m. Thanks a lot.

my B+M is pretty close to 2 inches lower than stock. it hangs lower than my headers for sure. it has the scrapes to prove it

If you are lowering the car, it might not be the best idea.

Depends how careful you are.

Yeah thats why I was wondering about how much they actually add to the bottom of the pan. None of the listings actually say the dimensions or how much they add to the bottom of the pan.

This pic shows clearance - my 1998 ATI D1SC Procharged Z28. It's a TCI deepan on a (Performabuilt 4l60E) with ARH 1 7/8 LT's and ARH catted y-pipe. The exhaust pipes and or UMI K member will hit before hitting the pan.

I did have Strano lowering springs on the front but removed them because the Spohn TA was too low. I might consider re-installing the springs again if I replace the Spohn TA with a tunnel mount cross-member TA.

The TCI doesnt seem that low from the pic. Do you know how much it added by any chance? Does anyone have pics of the silverado pan on their car?

This is the front view. My UMI K member will make contact before the TCI pan as will the oil pan. The oil pan is just a tad higher than the UMI K member.

I have put about 4k (4 years driving) on the car with the Koni SA's on the lowest perch on the shock. There are no marks at all on the pan. But the car is not a daily driver.

However, you can see where the Spohn TA has/will scrape (high center).

What might bite any item on the underside of a car is city road construction where the manholes are exposed with all concrete and/or asphalt excavated aways from the manholes or extremely high speed bumps.

Note: I recall my Performabuilt Lvl III came with a deep pan. I think it was/is about an inch shallower than the TCI. I didn't keep it so can't measure.

Maybe Frank will chime in with dimensions.

I have a deep pan on my car I think it holds 2-4 extra quarts my car is slammed it sits lower than stano springs so the pan sits pretty low but I have never had any issues with my deep pan I scrape my Y-pipe quite often but not my pan.

The factory truck pan is about an inch or so deeper than the factory fbody shallow pan. We use the truck pan on all level 5 builds and to date I do not recall ever getting any complaints about it hitting. With that being said I think you would be fine with using one. Vince

Why do you need a deep pan anyway if your trans temp is in check??
