91-93 models entirely - have a 292.5Hz. Pressure Control Solenoid and 91-92 units have the wrong connector. (1994 and up models have a 614Hz. Solenoid compatible with the PCM.)
1994-1996 cases have the old style linkage, adapting the newer neutral safety switch and linkage will require improvisation. These cases also have the cooler lines in the front, 1997 and up have the return line in the back.
1997-2000 cases do not have the top bolt hole.
97-98 have specific only parts to those years btw.
99 and higher 4L80-E's have 10% thicker planetary gears and wide manual-second band
00 I think it was the same as 99
March 2001+ got the 12 o'clock bolt hole and different roller clutchs that were supposed to support better, but in doing so they got smaller rollers so it's debateable if this is an 'upgrade'
This is the 01+ roller design.

This is the old design with bigger rollers.

This is the new design failing.

04+ Later motorhomes and 1-tons got the 4L85e with 5-pinion planetary and straight cut gears. rated at 480lbsTQ vs 460lbs for the 4l80e

The transgo HD2 kit will be the best easiest upgrade.
I've heard some say the shafts are 'weak'. Although that has to be a relative term since they are a lot beefier then a 4l60e. And they are $300+ ouch.

Mine seems to have broke the tip off a snap ring with FTL says is kind of common, so if your opening it up a 34 element sprag might also be a good upgrade.

Beyond that you need a special torque converter to bolt it up or a different flywheel.

Also need a bigger 400 yoke of varying type for the driveshaft.
Need to rewire and add a couple wires.
Need to either use an expensive TCI controller, full manual valve body or do a segment swap in the PCM to make it work. All that can be found in a search.
