ok to go from regular ATF to Dexron VI?

bought a built th400 that had regular Pennzoil ATF in it after it was rebuilt. When I opened the pan, the trans seemed to be very very low on fluid (previous owner drained it before I got it). Would it be ok to run Dexron VI in it when I fill it back up?

Dexron v1

As far as I remember the Dealer network (GM) has replaced the Dex 3 with only Dex v1 , Give them a call.
