Default Anyone DD a 400 trans?

Just like the title says. Im thinking of using my 400 I have sitting in the shop in my DD when its going. Be using a 4000 stall(maybe 3800) and gears. Probably go 3.73 but depends on how the car runs. Anywho, who here uses a 400 in a DD and hows it do?

We used to run them all the time......in the old days. It's all we had. Mine was a 4500 stall in a 79 Z/28.

Im talking about a FI LS car. I've had several DD's with a TH350 or 400. Just wondering hoe the FI does without an overdrive for mileage.

Depends on what form of FI. Turbo cars get better gas mileage than blower cars. I myself will be running a Procharger on my setup. 3.46 gears and 26" tires with 4200 stall. Semi-DD, lol. My old NA setup had so much overlap I only got 16mpg on the highway. I averaged 12mpg in town. With the new boost friendly cam I expect to be a little higher than the old mpg numbers. Maybe.

I will be runing a custom grind cam somewhere around 23x and 60x so won't be as bad as with your cam lol. Only power adder would be n2o. No blower or turbo. Undecided on what gears yet. Just thinkin of running the th400 because its sitting in my shop and trip over it everyday. Might as well use it lol. Anyone wanna share their setups with this trans? Thanks guys

RMVB th400 w/brake, 3000 stall, 9" 3.70 gears, turbo 5.3 at 17psi

Its at around 3000rpm at 65.... doesn't bother me a bit driving it around, drive it every day there isn't snow on the ground, and i have to drive quite a few highway miles to get to work.

I was thinking of going a turbo setup but wasn't sure how involved it was for a DD. I will be running a 5.3 also. What cam and heads are your running? If you don't mind me asking.

02+ ls6 cam, 317 heads, 7.425 pushrods, Master Power T70/.96ar turbo.... made numbers in sig with stock slipping trans and messed up vig stall

nice think about the 317 heads (8.5:1) is that i can run 17psi on 91octane pump gas! and have ran as much as 19 without problems!

Im sure its well over 600hp now, lmfao.... not bad for a little 5.3

Not bad at all!!! Thats really awesome. You choose the 5.3 for the compression or did ya blow a 5.7? lol. Im going that route purely for price. Either leave it low compression and turbo or use 5.7 pistons, mill the heads, and run n2o. Prolly go n2o for the simple fact its cheaper. Hell I haven/t officially bought the car yet but looking at all my options before I spend any money. Hate doing things over again cause of rushing it or bad choices.

Nitrous isn't really cheaper man... well on a budget 5.3 build it will cost about the same... nitrous will nickel and dime your ***, by the time you get a decent kit and all the nessesary (well in my opinion nessessary) stuff to safely and efficiently run it you have just as much in it as you would with a front mount turbo. also you never have to worry about bottle fills, such a pain in the *** and only fun for a few runs till you have to fill again.

ya i blew my 5.7, killed the #7 ringland, pretty common lol... chose the 5.3 because it takes to boost so well, and is just do damn cheap.

are you buying a car off tech that is an unfinished turbo 5.3 project???

No buying a wrecked TA for cheap out of texas. How mush of a pain was it to install the front mount? I was under the impression that's its really expensive to do a frount mount turbo kit. Even if you build it yourself.

With the Power LS Engines make, I would just stick with a Turbo 400 because they handle so much more power than a $2000 rebuilt 4l60e that can only handle 600 hp 700 FT LBS

Your losing over drive so expect to lose 5 or so mpg depending on what stall you run.
Is it worth the head ache of building your 4L60E every year or two?

Haul ***!
