A lot of people do not like PGs on the street, but they are not bad at all with a turbo and a custome built stall. If OD is a concern, 4L80 is the way to go for brute strength. IMO.

If I were you(and I was pushing 800hp) I wouldn't bother with a 4L60E, I'd go straight for the 80E. However, you really should call the guys at PerformaBuilt or FLT and see what they say.

That will last about 5 minutes at the power level your saying. We just sent our 4L80 for a 408ci/Turbo truck and it's getting there level 5 with hardened shafts, transbrake and misc stuff. That with the right converter can bring you to $7k pretty quickly. We would probly blow up the level 3 in 5 minutes on the dyno.

just thinking out loud here i might be totally wrong but turbo guys usually benefit from smaller gears out back right? why not run a tranny without OD like a 400 with some 3.23s or 3.42s out back to keep the rpms down at highway speeds. a built 400 will probably not cost a fortune to handle your power and is lighter than the 80e.

Like I said FLT is awesome also and they make a great product and I'm sure Vince would hook you up. Before you completely rule out RPM you should call and speak with them concerning your build and see what they can do for you. I have a RPM trans and so far I am happy but this summer will tell the true tale.

i found a website with a turbo 400 level 2 that will handle 800rwhp for 1400 and it has a 2600 stall TC, ls1 bellhousing included. or a level 3 thatll handle 1200+ plus ls1 bell housing AND your choice of TC only 1900! soo 1900 plus like 300 for a drive shaft, ill prob do that i guess.

A well-built TH400 can handle whatever you can dish out; I know of a guy running one in his 950 rwhp 150 mph trap twin turbo street car, no problems so far (as opposed to the several T-56s that he's destroyed). Much cheaper, lighter and from I've heard more reliable than a 4L80E. But if highway gas mileage is a big concern then you may have to go with the heavy and expensive overdrive trans (although you can buy a lot of gas with the initial savings that you'll see with the TH400).
FWIW the 4L80E is the only trans that Performabuilt must ship via truck freight due to its ET-killing heft. You must have a loading dock or forklift to receive it.

i called performabuilt like 3 times, they said eitha t400 or 4l80e. i just found out if i get the t4oo i would also need..the Master Blaster torque converter, cross member with spacer, adjustable Torque Arm with drive shaft loop, steel Nitrous drive shaft, speed sensor, converter cover, Lokar dip stick, crankshaft spacer and transmission mount. This transmission and torque converter are rated at 1200 horse power. and also like $4385.

1.80 Gear Powerglide, custom stall... give it a try. Once you love it and want OD, add a Gear Vendors OD unit. This is my plan so far. Love the glide, especially on the hose. The street is funny. People say they "might not like" a glide but it works fine. How log does it take to get into traffic with a LONG first gear? Same as it takes when you shift a TH400 from 1-2.. With big power on tap, it's just a blip of the throttle anyways to go from 0-45. I find it nice NOT having to manually go from 1-2-3.... Just a nice firm Low/High gear exchange. First goes to 80mph... High goes to 160...
