Default YANK SS4000 Install

I just installed SS4000 converter ( from stock) in my car. My question is does my car (trans.) need to be retuned? Thanks.

yes, you might possibly need to get a tune to delete 2 codes. i think its
P0757, P0751 if i remember correctly. i know when i had my cam, converter installed and tuned driving home was horrendous. my car died out alot. and these codes came up. i think one of our sponsors knew exactly which codes they were and sure enough it was those.

Yes you will likely get codes and hit the limiter. Did you space the converter to the flexplate?

Yes you will have to tune it or you will more then likely get codes and put the car into limp mode.

Yes. I ended up using a .125 spacer to put the converter to flexplate within the range required by YANK. Thanks for the info.

If you have boltons and a converter, mail order tuning can get you fixed up and offers a lot of bang for the buck!

You can drive part throttle all day long and its fine. You may or may not go into limp mode but it gets better as the computer tries to adjust over time. The Yank instructions say dont go from a dig at WOT or brake stall your converter from a stop. It doesnt actually say dont go WOT period. I took it easy but did go WOT easing into it. Still at 500 miles I haven't gone WOT from a dig or brake stalled yet either. Mostly bc street tires wont hold it so its pointless.

When you shove the converter all the way in, there can not be more than .187 or less than .090, between the converter and the flexplate. If there is more, you need to insert spacers between the flexplate and the converter. I used steel washers from the hardware store. They were .060 thick and measured within .001 of each other. You can use a drill to check the distance.

I bought a box of steel washers. I had to go through quite a few with a mike before I found what I needed.

My SS4000 just showed up yesterday. My question is my tranny is stock and I started throwing this code last summer:
P0751 Shift Solenoid A Performance or Stuck Off/
1-2 Shift Solenoid Valve Performance

Will my tranny be fine since this will get tuned out anyway once my converter is installed?

I'd get that solenoid issue fixed. you can change the solenoid by dropping the pan.
