I have seen FLP offer deals at times of as much as $200 off the price of the Level IV. That means you can get one of the top built 4L60E trans' on the market w/ vacuum modulation conversion for $1795 during one of their special offers ($1995 regular price last I checked). Seems like a good deal to me.

At 700 RWHP the 4L60E won't survive long no matter who builds it, ask anybody that's making close to 600 and they'll tell you. I make just over 500 RWHP and I've killed 2 4L60E's. If your friend wants overdrive then the 200R4 is probably the way to go. I still say Rossler is the best, Carl is more expensive than the others but you get what you pay for. If your friend is not concerned with overdrive then a TH-400 is the next best bet, if the car is really light say 3000 LBS max a 2 speed powerglide is best.

I would go for a TH350 over the TH400, depending on rear gears vs weight, saves a few pounds and takes just as much abuse, almost anyway.
Now, Elite Hot Rod, you can feel free to post who built your tranmissions? And also, give the guys at Cmotorsport a call and ask how long the one in the Impala has been running!
I hear Century has some helluva strong 60e's also.

Charlie,
When my stock tranny finally went south at the beginning of this summer I decided to support the local economy and went with a Dallas tranny shop but had nothing but problems with their tranny. So after 3 failed attempts with their tranny I sent it to another pretty well known local guy out of Waco Texas, his name is John Goebel. This tranny is an experiment at this point, It's a vacuum modulated, manual valve body and a T brake in a 4L60E. It should be back this weekend and I'll let you know how it does. I looked into Rossler, Century, FLP and Speed Inc, knowing what I know now I wish I had of gone with Rossler in the first place so rather than spending the $3,500.00 on the Rossler built 4L60E now I'm on my second tranny with about $6,000.00 invested, as they say hind sight is 20/20.

6.37@101 with a 1.41 60ft (Nitrous cut off at the 330 mark.)
I have had the tranny in the car for about 1 yr now. I would say that is pretty good.
I am making about 550-600 rwhp and alittle more torque.
Tranny built by John Goebal @ GT trannies in Waco, TX

That depends if your NA or Boosted/Sprayed..
I believe a 4L60E will work fine in a 10.90 NA application.
Weight is a killer along with heat..
I wanna get my car down to 3400lbs eventually (I'm losing weight) and that combined with a quality rebuild it should last a while.

I would also have to say Rossler. I just talked to Carl last week. For those that don't know. He built the 4l60E that is in the 8 sec. TT vette. He said they were having to go through the tranny quite often. But since has figured out why. They were twisting the input shaft. He now makes his own billet piece and the tranny has been holding fine.
I called him on a 4l80E. He said he could build me one that could handle 2500HP.
Don't think I will ever need that.
We also talked about how it's funny how guys will spend $10,000+ for a well known and great shop to build them a motor. Or spend $2,000+ for a rear. But when it comes time to get a tranny they want one for next to nothing.
Do it right the first time and get a Rossler. I've been there and done that and learned from my mistakes.
Just my $.02

i also talked to Carl @ rossler. he gave me a 2600 buck price tag on his 4L60E tranny. That is cheap price to pay for the best 4L60E on the market. someone on another post said that Vette had to be refreshed every 15 passes.....not the case according to carl.
