I guess you need to soak the clutches for a 1/2 hour or so before you install them
otherwise they burn up real fast
Now the 3/4 is the clutches at the back end of the drum with the input shaft --?????

Yep, thems the ones! Right in the back of the input housing. They're a pretty simple repair as far as internal work goes. Make sure before you soak the plates in ATF you check your clearances. Once you soak them you'll never be able to accurately determine freeplay.
The question posted by Grape Ape was can you just replace the 3/4 clutch pack.
