Default Bushing.

Replace the seal . look at the bushing , if it looks warn then replace it or bring the drivesahsft and extension to someone who knows and have them check them.

There is a special tool called a Bushing Remover to get the bushing out but I was never able to get one,and heard it was about $200.. I Moved my exhaust, torquearm, and driveshaft out of the way, pulled the rear seal off and seen the bushing. Ended up pulling the tailshaft off, slid it off about 4 inches and used a screwdriver to bend it and yank the old bushing out.. then put the new bushing in as well as a new seal from autozone for $8.99 p.i.t.a.

The output shaft does not ride on the bushing so it will have play with the yoke removed...

Check the side-to-side play of the bushing with the yoke in (grab the yoke and try to move it up/down)... it most likely is ok.

yes, normal wear. I have a bushing tool that I made and it works extremly well. I know Sequin is quite a way from Katy, but if you are in the area, I can drive old one out and new one in.

I agree, depending on where the output shaft's support is, there could be a decent amount of play and it be completely normal. I remember an older ford trans I had was like this. Perfectly normal.
