Default use the radiator for cooling?

im installing my 4l80e soon and I was wondering if i should use the radiator inline with my trans cooler or just use the cooler? does using the radiator increase temps or does it help keep them down?

If you don't drive your car in the winter, do not run the radiator cooler.

Well some guys say they overheat things but if so why do almost every factory car have cooler in rad and no external. I do drive my car a bit in early spring and late fall and it can get cold so figured good idea to run the factory rad and external cooler.

I will monitor my temps and see how it works out.

I would go with the tranny cooler if possible. All the guys I know have told me that it has provided with better cooling in comparison to the radiator for cooling the tranny fluid.

I added an external cooler to mine that already had a radiator cooler. It did help to bring the temp down during the hotter months and I like to think it helps to bring the fluid up to temp quicker in the winter. My opinion... Run both.

Just get a good aftermarket tranny cooler and run that only. Sometime your old raidator cooler has metal particles from the past that could get flushed in your new tranny. Its not worth trashing a tranny to save a few bucks. I just got a goo B&M race cooler and it works great.

Stock trans coolers in radiators can never go below the coolant temp. My trans fluid has only hit 200* once, 180* three times (was 2, but now I have a transbrake). I have a fan on mine, but it is still not hooked up. Summer time, the trans mostly runs at 160*, and winter time 100-120*. As long as it doesn't stay under 0* (trans temps) you are pretty much fine.
