Getting ready to do a converter swap and wanted to know what type of ATF do you guys preferred to use and what type/brand of filter should I get? Any type of Dex III work just fine? I read somewhere on here that I'll need 8 quarts to fill the tranny and another quart to pour into the new stall. Does that sound about right?

With just a converter swap, you are prolly looking at 4-5 quarts total. I have run the Castrol Dex for the past few years with no issues.

I'm just dropping the pan before I drop the tranny down, so basically the 1 quart or less to pour into the new converter and 4 quarts to replace whatever came out from dropping the pan and I'll be good to go.

Anything Dex III should be just fine. I just run Pennzoil in my FLT5.

i am probably gonna get flamed for this but i have been using type f in my trans for over ten years now with a 3600 vigilante converter with a transgo shift kit ect...... I used type f in my 700r4 (sold the car)and i still use it in my turbo 400.

I am not saying you should do the same but i tend to stick with what i know works.

FWIW take a china filter, cover the sump end with your hand and blow through it, they leak like hell. I know no one give a ****, but do the same on an SPX filter and it's tight.

Who sells SPX? I have one from Orielly's and its a pioneer. Says its made in the U.S. on the box, and on the label it says made in Taiwan

I have read about plenty of people running type f as well. Apparently it increased shift firmness. I have never had experience with it and will stay with Dex III as recommended by my builder.
