Was running the car at about 50% throttel, 3rd gear 2400rpm when the cover to the DVD-servo blow off.
The snap ring holding the cover took a piece of the aluminum edge with it.

This tranny have been rebuilt by the owner on a low budget - what could be the cause of this ?

 

Most likley cause is the ring was not seated well in the groove during installation

 

yeah x2 on that. the way that ring gets locked in you would have to break the case or cover to get it to pop out.if seated properly. it must have only been half seated
