Default Worth swapping a Vig4000 to a PT4000?

Im currently running a Vigilante 4000 stall (Actually flashes to about 4200) in a cam only setup, 3.23 gears. It takes about 2500 to 3000 rpm to accelerate with normal driving, Likes lock up at 46 mph, and Im getting 9 mpg city and 19 mpg highway.

It hits hard from a stop, but anything over 50 mph it feels slower than when I was on the stock torque converter with bolt ons. This is my first torque converter, and Im basically a little disappointed. From what I understand the PT series converters pull hard up top and have similar looseness, which I dont mind.

Would I see a big difference in pull swapping to a PT4000? Thanks.

IDK much about those converters but if you're not happy then it wouldn't hurt switching to a converter you're looking for

i had a vig 3200 & went to the pt4000 & it made a big difference in my car.......

i know its not a direct apples to apples comparison that you are looking for,so take it for what its worth.

i think you would like the pt4000 for that 1 reason you mentioned......the top end pull is great....plus i was pulling 1.48 60' with it also.

good luck!

i would keep your vigilante 4k stall and just swap out your 3.23 gears for some 3.73 and see if that wakes it up.

I had a vig 4000 and it would hit hard down low and felt slow up top so i sent it off to FTI and it is perfect now and hits hard and pulls hard up top!!

I got my vigilante stall brand new, and Ive put close to 2k miles on it. If I have to send out a new stall to get fixed, I might as well buy a different one that performs the way I want. Im not bashing vigilante, the stall hits very hard, thats just not all that Im looking for. I run 315 ET streets on 17" rims, which work well, but I cant use the full potential of the stall. I would rather sacrifice a hard hit to gain a stronger pull from a roll. I just dont know if the difference between my vigilante 4000 and a PT4000 would be noticeable???

Kirk, it'll definately be noticeable, the PT series converters pull like a freight train up top/on the big end, esp compared to a Vig.

FWIW, I've owned two PT converters.
