Default Stall question

I am looking at putting a stall in my 98' Camaro. Bolt on car with 3:73 rear gears. I plan on doing heads and cam later on with in the 1-1.5 years. I was wondering what brand of stall you guys suggest and why/advantage? I was looking at either Circle D, Yank, or Precision Industries Vigilante. Also what stall speed do you are you guys running? I was thinking 3600-4000. Thanks for your input.

I think the Circle D would be the best choice -

The 3600 is a very popular choice. It will work well for your current setup and should compliment the cam as well. Do you know what cam you might be interested in, it would help in the stall decision.

This topic gets beat to death here. Call the converter sponsors and talk with each of them and then you decide. All make great products IMO. However, Vigilante isnt a sponsor here I dont believe, but they have a good rep also.

Circle D is local to me so most likely be my choice. Can get awfully expensive though. Particularly in these economic times! Keep in mine just buying a converter isn't all that's involved. You not only have the labor costs of installation but then you need sticky tires. And in my case no sticky tire is available for a 19" wheel so I would have to buy wheels. And now no wheel is available that matches my factory so now I have to get two factory 18" wheels widened or buy four new wheels, more expense. I won't put wheels that don't match on my car. A converter produces real gains but pretty expensive gains.

I have a Performabuilt 3600 stall to go with their L2 tranny. I've only had it a short while, but I am happy with it. I've used a Yank and a Vig. in a 93 T/A back a few years ago, I can't say I notice any real difference in the three.

I love my FTI. It is a different animal now.

My wife loves it too. First time she drove it she went oh I not used to that then she mashed it and said I LIKE IT!

I would say a Yank SS3600 would be good for your needs. I run a few more things then you have and run a SS4000, LOVE IT! Call Dave at Yank and tell him your plans, real cool guy to talk to and listens to you. He will give good advice and some good pointers. The flash points on mine is crazy and I just roast my street tires. I'm doing some suspension tweaks and I will post up from when I was 100% stock T/A to my build now to show the difference.

Good luck on your choice for a torque converter. But you should call all the compaines that you are thinking of and get a feel of you like more and make your choice a little easier.

A Circle D 4C 3600 stall would be perfect for your set up.

Greg makes an awesome converter and his customer service is top notch. Can't go wrong with any of them. I prefer FTI though.
