does anyone know if a 4l80e can be stuck in safe mode or in second gear if the speedometer cable was not intact....
I found out that the speedometer (VSS) cable had a wire thorn. I fixed this and am about to test drive it.
I just finished installing the 4l80e trans. and we could not get it to shift gears, it was stuck in second even after the re tune.
I will see....laters
also what is the fuse that is responsible for the 12v to the transmission.
I know that there are 2 pink wires at the big connector....are they both 12v sources?

ok this is so cool. I took the car for a spin and the tranny does shift now. I am so glad that it was a simple fix, I did not want to go in there and re-do all the wiring again. that was very time consuming.
the PCM did not command the tranny to shift since the VSS was not functioning, the VSS wires were messed up and just needed to be reconnected again.
the 98 PCM is controlling the 4l80e with out any problems.
thanks again for all who helped me out a lot specially John (slow67).
now we just have to adjust the shift points and we are set to go.

my car did not throw any codes....the car is running good with the new transmission now. I was having a hard time bc the VSS was not connected to the tranny since the wire had been cut by me on installation.
what year is your car and how did you wire it?
