Default 4L60e just went out (again)

So I was driving up a hill at a steady 50mph in my stalled (yank SS4000) Camaro and I hear a *pop* the hill wasn't steep at all. I tried to give it a lil gas and there was no response. Luckily there was a church right at the top of the hill. in the Tennessee backroads there is NO-THING. So i was lucky.

I tried reverse,1st,2nd,drive, and OD . . . .nothing

I get out and hear ticking coming from the transmission down low.

I just had my mechanic put it in this brand new stall from Yank and only had it about 3 months ago.
I broke it in properly per instructions.

I then sent in my computer to Frost (dude is kickass) and he gave it awesome street manners. nice lockup etc.

problem was it didn't like to shift from 2nd to 3rd under wide open throttle. Z=pak clutches were put in when the stall went in.

So, what could it be Guys? the stall? pump?

To "see" if the front pump went away, drop the lower line (coming from the transmission) at the radiator and see if fluid comes out at an idle in park. It should come out at a pretty good rate. If "no fluid", broken pump. If you see the speedometer move when in a forward gear, then it is the rear end that is broke.

The rear end is fine.
The trans is making a ticking noise. I'm gonna get my neighbor to drop it for me and I will see what the damage is.

well, the pump went out. I disconnected both lines from my tranny cooler and not a damn thing came out. I would like to thank my mechanic.

Any chance my converter could be damaged as well?

I think i am having sorta the same prob........ A lot of vibration while in 3rd gear and high rpm's and sometimes on a 3 to 2 downshift at WOT it seems to be slipping............ And i just did a set of heads and lost 50 hp on the top of the curve...You would figure GM would have gotten the trans thing correct by now but i guess not or at least it's hit or miss.

Your 3-4 pack is fucked again. Z-packs are some shitty clutches and I would NEVER use them again. Blew my transmission and replaced them with the z-packs and blew it again 3000 miles later.

They only way you'll get around it is a built transmission. I highly recommend a better one than a stg 2 if you plan on putting more power through it. Mine was rebuilt like a stage 2 and it didn't last very long. Now I have a FLT stg 6 i

^^^x1 4L60E only handle the stock ls1 so if is not built the stall could also be the reason why it went out.

Well I already bought it so lets shine a lil optimism on me dropping $1,890 haha. I will bitch when it tears up but until then 'weeeeeeeeeee'

th350,SS4000 stall and an MS4 on a daily commute of 140 miles not a good idea. the lack of overdrive at those steadily high RPMs would kill the valve train i would think.

i think its funny how everyone says the 4l60e is junk. When the trans is in probably 95% of every rear wheel or 4wd car or truck gm has sold. Do people just expect a stock trans to hold 500 horsepower and a stall for ever? Knock on wood but ive given my trans hell for the 40000 miles ive owned it and its taken everything. Im a guy who likes the 4-2 kickdown at 70mph and that is what supposedly kills these trans, i must have done it 200 times... lol but i also dont manually shift at wot. I think the problem is there is a fine line between use and abuse. Some people could break anything.

the gas cost would dwarf the valvetrain repair cost... lol
