newb question - how can I reduce my rpms on the highway without a gear vendors unit?
I have an LS1 in a 93 Camaro, with a TH400, 3000 converter, and 3.70 gear in the back. The car right now is on the stock Z28 16" wheels, 245/50/R16. The engine is N/A with ported stock heads (853s), stock crank, 3.905 pistons, 233/239 cam, nothing too crazy.
At 80mph on the highway, my rpms are at 4000. I know that getting a taller tire, maybe a 17" wheel with 28" tall tire, will help bring my rpms down. I'm not sure how much that will bring the rpms down. Will going up 2.5" in tire really help?
The Gear Vendors unit is nice, but it's expensive. Are there any other alternatives to help bring my rpms down a little without swapping the transmission? I don't mind cruising at 3000 rpm, I'm more concerned about overheating than I am anything else.
Have to admit, I don't know much about gear ratios or wheels and tires. Thanks to anyone for any help/advice!

This sounds cost effective. If I drop to 3.25 gears, how much would that bring the rpms down at cruise? Is there a formula or calculator for this sort of thing?
Thought about that also but I like the TH400.
