I love 4.10's in my a4. Would never do anything else. Have done couple hour drives on the freeway with them and with the radio on it doesn't bother me. I would honestly look into more. 4.10's aren't that bad at all.

If you do change gears I would avoid richmonds...my 3.73 richmonds whined like crazy.

Im not too crazy about buying used gears .
If I had to do it over , I would of installed 342's instead of 373's . Esp. with my 4000 stall .

Dont forget that you should not let these trannies shift into 4th under WOT cause its really hard on them with my car I have 3.73's and go through the traps at 117mph@6000rpms (26" tall tire)so if you are thinking about racing it some and takin things easier on your tranny i would not go anything more then a 3.73 IMO but dont worry about any of this if you wont go above 120 on the street or never take it to the track

Thanks guys! I obviously want to make it faster out of the hole, but I have to keep it practical. I can't afford to break it, I don't have a back up! 3.42 sounds about right!

Dang Fast Eddie! All you did was stall and gear and you're under 8 sec. in 1/8 and running low to mid 12's in a quarter! That's awesome man!

Man, you guys are killin' me! I can't wait to change gears and put in a stall!! That's freakin' flyin' with just a few mods! That's faster than a new stock Camaro SS and any stock Mustang.

Yes ,in 82 degree heat too . Motor is untouched .
No weight reductions either .Probably heavier than stock with the OE ZR1 wheels
A couple of minor mods too . But thats it .
Mods are :
Yank SS4000 stall ( biggest improvement ) 373 gears w/ Nitto 555r drag radials
BMR lca's
ORY/ stk ex manifolds. ( dont know if it made it faster , but it sounds cool)
Magnaflow Cat back
SLP lid w/ K&N & free ram air mod
Basic Dyno tuned .

Cut a 1.72 60 ft 3 times in a row . Now I have LT's and a TSP catted y waiting to go on .Going to remove the ft sway bar and spare tire next time too. Should net a 1.6x 60 ft. Maybe some high 11's in the late fall

A good stall will make a world of difference in ET .
The only down side is ,its hard to drive with regular street tires . My 315 35 17's d/r's have a hard time sticking in 1st gear .

Hey Eddie, what's your car like on the interstate? I was set on a 3.42, but my mechanic is a serious drag racer, and he tells me to put in a 3.73. He said it won't hurt my mileage that bad, and it won't be too strenuous on my engine. What do you think?

Not Eddie either lol but I too have 3.73's, on the highway its not much different than when I had the 3.23's, RPM's are noticeably higher so I try to reduce speed just a little and compensate. At 70 its

not tryin to jack the thread. but you guys seem like the ones to ask. im running a 305/40/18 on the rear (27.5"). i want to go with a yank ss3600 but stuck on gear choice.. i was set on 373s but now after installing those tires i feel like i might should go 390s. im doing 2100rpm at 70mph (gps speed because the speedo is way off with the new tire). the low end suffered alot from this tire size thats why im kind of leaning toward the 390 also now. what do you guys think?

What gear do you have now? Do you want to base your gear choice on that one size of tires? 3.90's would be fine though IMO. I don't want any more gear than I have because its DD that gets driven 50-60 miles a day and thats just going to work, but as you already pretty much know I have shorter tires. So yeah I think you would like it. Although I will say that stall is going to make far more difference than the gears, and you might save money and buy more tires instead of gears, after that stall your going to need it.

Hey , I am Eddie ! LOL ! 373's arent too bad on the hwy .Once in in O.D and the tor. converter locks , its fine . I still cruise 75 mph w/o a problem . But ,, if you do a lot of hwy miles , I would stick with the 342's .. It would lower your rpms a couple of hundred and the rear would be a little stronger too . The 342 pinion is bigger and thicker . You can still have a great 60 ft with a 3600 rpm + stall and drive great on the street . A lot of cars on here with 323's or 342's cutting 1.5X -1.6X 60 fts .

There are alot of things missing that are needed before we can really help you too much. For starts what all is done to the car? Is this a daily or just a toy car? If you take it to the track is it 1/8th or 1/4 mile? The converter will make it "feel" slower(or it did to me) at first but is needed if you are gonna put a nice cam in the car.

ive got 323s in it now. the car is a weekend toy. motor and drive train are all stock, blackwing/CME car but like i said the new tires made it feel like a turd off the line. with the 26' tire i was set on 373s but now i just dont know. i feel like the 390s with the new tire would almost be the same as 373s with the old 26" tires i had....
