Default Lokar 4L60e Trans Dipstick question

whats up everyone...
so my old dipstick tube got crushed and i need to get a new one so i figured why go with a stock one...

found Lokar makes a few but which one to get?
i find it hard to believe there can be great differences between the 4 they offer

whats the difference between firewall & transmission mounted?

here they are on Jegs...

Firewall, bolts to firewall to hold it in place and Transmission bolts to transmission. Best to use mounting style your stock one did.

Best advice I can give you is to go buy yourself a stock one.

You want be sorry you did if you change transmission fluid often.

I see that Lokar now sells this funnel adapter thing to lessen the pain.

the lokar 4l60e dipstick is a POS...worst thing I've bought for my car

the measuring dipstick is flimsy plastic that curls up on the end and makes it a pain to get back in, the tube is too small to use any normal funnel, even once adapted it takes forever because you have to pour so slow, the design of the stupid *** nuts where it goes into the trans makes it a royal bitch to get in and out of the case, and in the end its just a piece of shiny metal that draws attention from more important aspects of the engine

wish I had a stock one

You would not want to go with the transmission mount. You would actually want to go with a firewall mount dipstick that is 36 inches long instead of 24 for that car.

I have a Lokar on my 4l60e, I hate it. It is the worst piece I have added to the car. As stated it's too small for a normal funnel (mine did not come with an adapter), it also utilizes a woven cable "stick" with what seems to be a lead fishing weight attached to the end to "measure" the fluid level with.

The problem is that the big fishing weight is too large to get an accurate reading, and very hard to read at all. Not to mention the "stick" is so flimsy half the time you end up whipping fluid all over the motor by the time you are able to finally GET a reading.

That's just my opinion though.

LOL....

Your arms will go numb from holding the funnel while you are outreached. Lokar dipsticks look real pretty but they are a royal pain in the ***. Go get yourself a stock one.

I have the 36" firewall mounted one I recently installed. It came with the adapter to put on the end of the funnel and it didn't really seem too hard to me to fill it up. I'll take the lokar any day over trying to get a stock one back in after it's been removed lol.

Any more thoughts on this? I'm finding it a pita to remove the bolt holding the stocker to the head. Also hard to get the stick out usually. Was thinking about doing a firewall mounted one so these problems go away

I hate it. Had to use one due to with my engine swap and went with the firewall mounted version. For me I didn't really care that it's so difficult to fill the transmission with fluid. Honestly, it's tedious, but wouldn't be a reason to stay away from it. And yes, I had some trouble getting it into the transmission because I didn't notice the flat spot on the tube the second time installing it (somehow I got it first try the first time installing it?). That reason still wouldn't keep me from buying it.

The reason I hate it is it's amazingly difficult to read how much fluid is in there. The "lead weight" on the end (great analogy from above, sums it up pretty well) does a TERRIBLE job of showing how much fluid you have in your transmission. I typically check the back of the lead weight indicator as it tends to give me better results than the front where the cross-hatch pattern is.

If I had the chance to do it over again, I would've found a way to make the stock one work. It (lokar) does look nice, but it does an awful job at what it's made for, that being showing you the transmission level.

Overall, I like my Lokar 4L60E dipstick. The only issue I have with it, is if the true fluid level indicated on my dipstick is actually accurate. I wonder how this could be truely verified? Any ideas?
