Default Rearend gears in automatics

Ive got a 2002 Ws6 as i understand it i have a 3.42 rearend now. however i want to shed some time off my quarter and and have already done a number of bolt ons Jet chip, air lid, K&N, MAF, Hooker LT's ORY flowmaster. these mods are great but the power for the cost is not quite as high as i would like. I want a 3.73 but am afraid this will send my RPM's through the roof. HOW MUCH HIGHER WILL MY RPMS BE IF I GET a 3.73? will it be a drastic amount? i run about 2500 at 85 mph.

do you got a M6 or A4. looking at your rmps at 85 i will say you got an A4 with 3.23. if so you will be around 3000+ with 3.73 at that speed. there is nothing wrong with this though. i have ran 4700rpms at 75 for 3 hours straight one time. that was will a TH400, 4.10s, 4500 stall and 26" ET streets.

That MPH/RPM is 3.23s, the higher of the A4 ratios.
3.73s would put you at 2900RPM @ 80MPH.

10-0 WS6, your car has 3.23s. ALL WS6 A4 cars came with 3.23s.

Get a good stall converter and it won't really matter what rearend gears you have. Gears really don't make that much difference one you have a good converter.

Do some reading in the Automatic Transmission forum...which is where I'm sending this one.
