Question im planning on doing a th400 swap

like the title says im planning to do a th400 swap and im a litto bit confused LOL.. Im looking to get one from craigslst and have it rebuilt.. but they;re so many different years LOL.. is there any difference between one from like a 70ish to like a 88ish or somethin ?

Not really. '71 and older had sprag type direct drums. Newer years can be upgraded with a 4L80E sprag type drum. At some point they switched from aluminum apply pistons to steel.

They also came with bellhousings to fit everything from chevys, buick/olds/pontiac, jeeps, jaguars, etc. It's not worth trying to adapt a non chevy bellhousing to an LS engine.

Let the shop thats going to build it supply the core.
Not sure what the going rate in CA is, but a used core sells for 75.00 in the detroit area.
Regardless what core you but its most likely going to need internal hard parts.
If I had a choice between buying late or early I guess I would buy a later core.
Look for heat treated splines on the pump stator.
