Default Converting the speedo off a newer Auto to old school

Readers digest..Bought a 60 elcamino with 409 in it. Pulling out the 409 going into a 77Trans Am ( dont ask ) Gonna put in a LS1 auto combo most likely out of a 98 - 02 camaro in the mino... Do I have to by a tail house conversion to make it work with the old schooll speedo. I have been using Street and performance as a base linefor prices BUT it all seems so expensive. Over 4 hun for a changeover tail shaft. Gotta try and save a few bucks when I can

Any other ways or companys a wee bit cheaper

Cheers

for around 300 you can get a cable x box, run a cable from you speed. to the box, then wired to a sensor on the trans-i have one in my Chevelle, works great, you have to program it, then its right on the money

they sell a tailhousing with a speed sensor and a old school speedometer, but it runs $350-450 like you mentioned. Its a very nice kit though. Ive installed quite a few in older cars.
