Default no gears at all....

ok, my original trans was going at 175,000miles, had 1st and 2nd strong, but would rarely go into 3rd. The cooler it was outside, the better shot it had of going into 3rd then 4th. So i decided to order a 74,000mile trans from a salvage yard. Well after installing it, it won't go into any gears. We looked underneath while shifting and the shifter cable is moving along like normal. Converter was installed properly. Main trans harness and vss are plugged in. What could be the problem? Any ideas? WHere should i start???

My guess is that the pump in the transmission is bad. Unplug one of the cooler lines and start the car. You should have fluid flowing out of the line. If not, the pump is gone and will need to be replaced.

yeah, the pump seems to be out, should i try to rebuild the pump or just sent back the trans and get my old one rebuilt? I already have the old one out of the car, so it seems to cut down on the cost. I would think i could pull the pump and rebuild it without removing the trans, but kinda new to all this. Any help?
