Arrow Swapping m6 to TH400, couple questions

I am switching out the t-56 for a th400. It will be in a few months I am just starting to piece things together. I am wondering what do you all do for the electric kick down? I will just t-off my brake booster for vacuum. Is there any good write ups showing how to swap a th400 in a ls1 f-body's? I also have some questions about what converter I should run in there? I was thinking a 4000 stall or maybe a 4400. If some of you all could give me some good info on this swap. Thanks

I have a Manual Valve body in mine, so cant help ya on a kickdown. As far as the converter, its best to go custom if you buying one new. Several sponsors deal with them, Ive been looking at FTI converters...and I like what I see

I am in the middle of a m6 to th400 swap right now. Make sure you measure to see if you need to use a shim between the converter and flex plate mounting pads and the the converter seats all the way in the pump

Not sure on the kick down either as i have a manual valve body. Definately go custom on the converter. I went with a custom PTC

I will definally go custom converter. I plan on running a 150 to 200 shot of nitrous. I have already purchased the tranny and it was just rebuilt. It supposedly is a full auto valve body but he says that it will hold any gear at any rpm. So we will see. I am excited to see what it will do for my car at the track.

with the rpms these engines pull, im suprise you went auto vavle body. Im a lil ignorant on older trans...but how will you control shift points through the auto valve?

Well I do agree with you I guess I just jumped on this buy because it was a good deal. I am kinda regretting it know because i think that I would rather have a manual valve bodied th400. I appreciate the help with all of this. I also wouldn't have to worry about the electric kickdown and the vacuum hose. What vendors are you guys going with for the th400? The pricing I have seen is relatively cheap for what your getting. I think that it would be better to go with a brand new unit from a vendor. Let me know what you all think thanks

i run a coan rmvb th400 with a continental 8" converter that flashes to about 5300. they're local and pretty popular with some fast cars on the west coast. i drive mine on the street. although the gas mileage sucks it drives great around town for what it is.

yea for a little while I will still be daily driving the car I only drive 10 miles to work an sometimes out and about just to friends and stuff. I am really wanting to go with a manual valve body, with a nice shifter in my m6 console. What are you guys paying for your th400 plus converter? Just curious. I just purchased a th400 from a guy local and it was built about a year ago. The trans was built with a B&M shift kit. It is a auto valve body and will supposedly hold every gear to what ever rpm you want. So I guess it can be manually shifted also. I am just worried if I should use this tranny or if I should just sell it and get my money back out of it and buy a nice unit from a vendor. Guys give e some input on this. Thanks

2800 + shipping. trans was 1800, converter was 1000. if the trans you have has good parts in it, just have it "rebuilt" for a manual valve body, probably gonna wanna transbrake too.

I would love to do a transbrake on there. I have heard that a transbrake is hard on the drivetrain, is that true?

Coan TH400 RMVB and 8" Coan 5000 converter here too. Don't skimp on trans cooler either. Budget Wicked posted is correct - a good converter is not cheap.

http://www.noid.org/~lj/TH400/TH400.htm

^^^this is roughly how I did my shifter setup. I used the flat bracket in the rear that the airbag module sat on for the rearmost bolts. Then 1/8"x1" aluminum strip like pictured in the link above with a 1" spacer to keep the shifter level and at a comfortable height. I'm not running a console anymore, made it easy to put the shifter (ratchet) where it was most comfortable for me, I'm 6'2". Once I get the install looking a little prettier I'll get some pics up.
