Default car jerks forward when I start it

Sometimes when I start my car it jerks forward a little bit as if it was in gear bit its in park. When it does this you can hear a clanking sound. It seems to do it mostly after its been sitting overnight or during a work shift. Any ideas why? Is this normal?

My car always did this on cold starts or when not started all day long. My tranny crapped out last night i dunno if it was a result from this though.

I'm not cammed, just bolt ons. The trans seems to work fine in every other way though. no slipping or hesitation

It's usually the forward clutches dragging for a second.
I've had a few of my own transmissions do this and they never failed.

thanks that relieves me! I just called my dad and he said the same thing and suggested changing the fluid out to some better stuff.

Mine does this on occasion if I dont hold the brake when I start it, that being said I normally do. I believe its normal for a lot of these cars as there is nothing wrong with mine at this time.

Ive not had any issues with my trans and it never did it enough to worry about maybe a few inches if that?

I wouldn't worry about it unless you really see it becoming a problem, maybe use the e-brake while you start it if your really worried.

First off let me say that you are a great source of info to this forum!

Jay heres the thing, in a 4l60e in park the low clutch is applied. Now when a vehicle is started why does it roll forward again? Clanking sound???? Jerks forward???

The fact of the matter is the low clutch has bled down. When the vehicle was started this clutch had to refill. It moved......Thats all I'm saying.
