There was a post a while back asking about how to mount a B&M pro ratchet shifter or other in these cars so that it looks factory. I had posted a pic of mine located here http://torqueaddicts.com/media/my.fo...s/photo_9.html. We are doing the same thing to a friend's Z28(JT093). It was an A4 car, but he got hold of an m6 console. You can see pics here of the process. http://torqueaddicts.com/pr. It is not done yet, but the reason we had to cut was to get the shifter mounted lower. The next step is to weld a thin plate of steel over the hole from the bottom. Then just drill a couple holes and bolt the shifter down. It fits just right with the m6 console and still looks factory. Keep and eye on those sparks though. It would have been better if we had a sawzall.

 

Whew...those sparks are killer, they also make your car very dirty. I suggest placing a large sheet or towel over your dash.

I picked up a peice of 16 gauge steel today from Lowes ($12). I am going to cut it to fit (9"x5.75"), then weld it from the bottom. Next, I'll drill the holes hole for the shifter and mount it. I'll take some pictures and post em up when I'm done.

I was planning on using the A4 console but I was lucky and aquired an M6 one. Just traded my A4 top half for a guy that had an M6 top half. IMO, I think the M6 one looks a lot more cleaner. But it looks like you did a good job on yours.

 

M6 ones are hard to come by cheap so we just tried this to see how it looks.

 

Well we finished up tonight. Took some more cutting and welding. BIG thanks to 4mulaJoe and Brains for all their help!

PSJ does your shifter have a shorter riser or what ever you want to call the thing the shifter **** screws on to? my friends looks longer?

 

Damn going from the M6 definitely looks much easier. I took alot of pics today of the plate that I fabbed up and installed. When I get my shifter done I will post a link to all of the pics.

I am considering getting a pro ratchet shifter or hammer shifter for a full manual reverse valve bodied th400. How well does a ratchet shifter work on the street. If you want to downshift to pass somebody, can you just bump it back forward? Both shifters look good, any advantages on mounting them over the two?

 

Yup. Just slap the shifter up once to downshift with a reverse manual. A reverse manual is also quicker for 3 point turns and such as opposed to a forward manual, but still it is no big deal.

 

What did you do with the reverse lockout?
